According to Sky Sports , Liverpool spent £116 million to acquire Wirtz, making him the most expensive signing in Premier League history, surpassing the record held by Moises Caicedo when he joined Chelsea for £115 million.

Wirtz is the latest new signing to arrive at Liverpool this summer under manager Arne Slot, reuniting with former teammate Jeremie Frimpong. While at the German club, Wirtz established himself as one of the world's brightest young talents. He made his Bundesliga debut at 17 years and 15 days old, scoring his first goal just weeks later against Bayern Munich and quickly becoming a key player for Leverkusen.
