In 2015, after a period of research, Mr. Ha Viet Thang decided to invest in a pilot model of raising horseshoe crabs in cement tanks. Initially, he only built 2 tanks with a total area of ​​24 m². Realizing that horseshoe crabs are easy to raise, have few diseases, good resistance and are especially suitable for local climate conditions, Mr. Thang boldly expanded the scale.

Currently, his family has a total of 12 cement tanks with an area of ​​340 m², raising about 500 horseshoe crabs. Each tank is designed to ensure ventilation and cleanliness, the water is changed periodically every week for the horseshoe crabs to grow well. Horsetail crabs are raised for about 2 years, reaching a weight of 4-6 kg/crab before being sold. The selling price ranges from 300-350 thousand VND/kg. With a stable farming quantity, Mr. Thang earns a profit from this model of about 350-400 million VND/year.

Mr. Thang shared: “Raising horseshoe crabs is not too complicated, just need to be diligent, clean the tank and take care of it. In particular, the food source for horseshoe crabs is mainly local trash fish, low cost, easy to buy and high efficiency”.

Mr. Ha Viet Thang got rich from the horse crab farming model.

For about 3 years now, Mr. Thang has taken advantage of the remaining land area to invest in raising civets . From 2 pairs of initial experimental civets, he has now increased the number to more than 30. With about 50 m² of cages, designed to ensure hygiene and not affect the residential area, his civet farming model has attracted many people to visit and learn. Thanks to knowing how to care for, actively breed and create stable output, each year the civet farming model brings in an income of 100-200 million VND.

Taking advantage of the area, Mr. Thang invested in a mink farm, increasing his family's income.

Mr. Phan Minh Khoe, Chairman of Tan Thuan Commune People's Committee, said: "The model of raising horseshoe crabs combined with civets of Mr. Ha Viet Thang is one of the typical models in the "Smart People's Movement" movement to develop the local economy . The model is not only suitable for the conditions here, does not require much area, food sources are easy to find, the model is also easy to apply, helping farmers to rise up to become rich legitimately".

The success of Mr. Thang's livestock farming model not only increases his family's income but also contributes to promoting the emulation movement of production labor in the community. At the same time, the model is easy to replicate, creating conditions for households to learn and change their livelihoods appropriately in the context of agriculture being increasingly affected by climate change. This also shows that people have boldly changed their production thinking , know how to apply techniques and take advantage of local resources to legitimately enrich themselves in their homeland./.
