The screening continues
Before going to Thailand with the goal of winning back the gold medal at the SEA Games, U22 Vietnam will have a very important tournament in China in November with strong opponents including the host, Uzbekistan and South Korea.
This tournament is held to help China, Uzbekistan and South Korea as well as U22 Vietnam prepare for the U23 Asian tournament taking place in early 2026. However, for coach Kim Sang Sik, this is also an opportunity for the home team to train and select personnel in order to conquer the 33rd SEA Games.
Coach Kim Sang Sik seems to have his squad ready to participate in SEA Games 33.
It can be said that the tournament that U22 Vietnam is about to attend is extremely important for coach Kim Sang Sik, because this is considered the final screening for the home team in order to find more important pieces and aim for a successful SEA Games or U23 Asian Cup.
The final pieces
In theory, the door to the SEA Games is still open to all Vietnamese players born after January 1, 2003. However, the reality is different for coach Kim Sang Sik's team.
After the U23 Southeast Asia tournament and then the U23 Asia qualifiers, coach Kim Sang Sik has basically shaped a framework that is considered difficult to replace at U22 Vietnam, spread evenly from goalkeeper to attack.
However, coach Kim Sang Sik also needs to be careful and consider options 2 for U22 Vietnam.
This is a group of players who are not only familiar with Mr. Kim's philosophy but are also key factors in the journey to win the U23 Southeast Asian Championship and pass the U23 Asian qualifiers, and even more or less tested at the national team level (against Nepal) in the Asian Cup qualifiers.
Therefore, until the final list of players for the SEA Games is finalized, Coach Kim Sang Sik's job will be to find a few more outstanding players to supplement the squad he has trusted for many months.
This choice of the Korean strategist of course has two sides. Firstly, familiarity can help U22 Vietnam not take much time to get used to and just operate the tactical ideas of Mr. Kim Sang Sik.
However, on the contrary, "framing" important positions can bring risks, because most of the players in coach Kim Sang Sik's planning are pillars or factors that are prioritized for use at clubs competing in the V-League.
There is a risk of injury, so coach Kim Sang Sik needs to take advantage of the upcoming tournament in China to build more backup personnel plans for U22 Vietnam, instead of being certain with what he has in hand.
