The national U23 team won two consecutive gold medals at the SEA Games in 2019 and 2021.
This will focus on investing in youth football teams and U23 teams; continue to innovate and improve the quality of professional football tournaments; create a mechanism to attract foreign players of Vietnamese origin to play for professional clubs, thereby creating a source to supplement the national team; add highly qualified coaching staff members to the national team and U23 teams; expand the socialization mechanism to attract investment resources for national teams and youth teams...
Regarding long-term solutions, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will continue to strongly develop grassroots football and school football; strengthen football academies and youth football training centers; improve the quality of professional football tournaments and professional football clubs; expand cooperation with international organizations and countries with developed football; strengthen solutions in science and technology, medicine, nutrition and logistics conditions, and facilities serving the training and coaching of athletes.
In recent times, in order to build and improve the quality of the national football team, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has proactively advised the Prime Minister to consider, promulgate or promulgate under its authority documents such as: Decision No. 2198/QD-TTg dated December 3, 2010 of the Prime Minister approving the Strategy for the development of physical training and sports in Vietnam to 2020; Decision No. 419/QD-TTg dated March 8, 2013 of the Prime Minister approving the Strategy for the development of Vietnamese football to 2020, with a vision to 2030; Directive No. 97/CT-BVHTTDL dated May 13, 2013 of the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism on organizing the implementation of the Strategy for the development of Vietnamese football to 2020, with a vision to 2030; Decision No. 1738/QD-BVHTTDL dated May 13, 2013 of the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism on approving the Program for coordination in directing and organizing the implementation of the Vietnam Football Development Strategy to 2020, with a vision to 2030.
Thanks to the attention, leadership and close direction of the Party and State; the proactiveness, coordination and responsibility of relevant ministries, branches and localities; the support and efforts of the Vietnam Football Federation, relevant organizations and individuals and the whole society, Vietnamese Football has achieved remarkable achievements, contributing to the overall development of football in Southeast Asia and Asia.
This is demonstrated through very impressive and historic achievements such as: The national men's football team won the Southeast Asian Championship (AFF Cup) twice in 2008 and 2018; in 2022, the national men's football team won the right to compete in the third qualifying round of the World Cup in Asia, the women's football team won the right to participate in the 2023 World Cup; the national U23 team won two consecutive gold medals at the SEA Games in 2019 and 2021; the excellent women's football team won 7 SEA Games gold medals (especially three consecutive SEA Games in 2019, 2021, 2023); the excellent Vietnam Futsal team twice participated in the final round of the World Futsal Championship in 2016 and 2020.
In addition, the national youth football teams U20, U19, U17, U15 including men and women are all in the top of the region and always qualify for the final round of Asian youth tournaments.
It can be seen that in recent years, Vietnamese Football has achieved the above achievements as a result of long-term planning and proper orientation from the implementation of the Vietnam Football Development Strategy.
