3,000-ton Viet A ship hits bridge pier, pontoon bridge operator falls into river and goes missing

On March 20, information from the People's Committee of Lieu De town, Nghia Hung district, Nam Dinh province confirmed that at the Ninh Cuong pontoon bridge area, an incident occurred where a pontoon bridge operator fell into the river and went missing.

The area where the incident occurred, leaving one person missing.

Accordingly, at about 9:20 a.m. the same day, the Viet A ship with registration number VA-999 and a capacity of 3,000 tons, while passing through Ninh Cuong pontoon bridge (connecting Nghia Hung district and Truc Ninh district, Nam Dinh province), suddenly collided with pontoon pillar No. 7 and the barge operating Ninh Cuong pontoon bridge.

The collision caused Mr. Pham Van H. (born in 1987, from Lai Chau province, a contract employee on a barge operating a pontoon bridge) to fall into the Ninh Co River. Due to the high water level, Mr. H. went missing after falling into the river.

Upon receiving the news, Nghia Hung district authorities are coordinating with relevant units to search, but up to now the victim has not been found.

The cause of the above incident is being investigated and clarified.
