From time immemorial, books and newspapers have often talked about "Old Stories of Quang Nam" and "Tet in Quang Nam," but no one has ever specifically mentioned Tet in Da Nang or Tet in Quang Nam! Nevertheless, there is still a touch of a unified, integrated Tet celebration.
Shared resources and responsibilities
Millions of people in Quang Nam province are celebrating Tet (Lunar New Year) for the first time as citizens of a new city – a centrally-governed city with the largest area in the country, encompassing abundant natural, cultural, historical, and human resources. It's a reunion Tet after nearly three decades. A reunion of relatives, of siblings and close family members.
In Sino-Vietnamese vocabulary, the word "Trùng phùng" (重逢) combines two meanings: it signifies repetition, another repetition ("Trùng"), but this is not an ordinary repetition; rather, it represents an inevitable meeting, a reunion of loved ones after a long separation ("Phùng").
Tet, the Lunar New Year, is a time for reunion within communities and families; a gathering of kind hearts. For the people of Quang Nam, this spring witnesses many beautiful and heartwarming exchanges between two localities that share a common history and cultural roots, "bringing them together," a convergence of identities, resources, and strengths. This is also a time for the traditional values of each region to complement each other, working together towards the goal of sustainable development and prosperity.
The previously common "ceremonial" visits between leaders of the two localities during holidays and festivals have now been replaced by joint efforts to address "domestic issues." The concept of mutual "support" between the two localities will no longer exist; instead, all levels and sectors will work together to develop social welfare programs and improve the lives of the people within the same city, especially addressing the severe consequences of natural disasters such as storms and floods expected at the end of 2025.
Three decades of accumulated experience create space for new development.
This reunion is more than just a sentimental encounter. Looking at the broader picture, especially in socio -economic aspects, the former Quang Nam and Da Nang, after nearly three decades of separation and striving for growth, have had ample time to accumulate significant achievements that contribute to the common cause of the new city, and more broadly, the country.
In nearly 30 years, the scale of the old Da Nang economy has increased more than 45 times; local budget revenue has increased more than 25.6 times; and per capita income has increased 21 times. The most impressive highlight of the city, considered a model of dynamic development, is the urban planning and renovation, and the synchronous development of technical infrastructure and people's lives. From a small city, Da Nang has achieved an urbanization rate of 87.2%, twice the national average.
During that period, Quang Nam province also experienced remarkable development. From a predominantly agricultural economy with virtually no significant industry or tourism , and a budget revenue of just over 150 billion VND in the first year after the province's re-establishment, the size of the economy increased more than 50 times compared to the initial period; the average GRDP per capita was approximately 84 million VND/year. The economic structure shifted strongly towards industry and services.
This is truly a reunion of rich cultural and historical traditions, of potential that has been and continues to be unlocked, and of two economic entities that have experienced spectacular growth over the past nearly 30 years. And especially, it is a reunion of collective spiritual strength, of willpower and aspiration to build a brighter future for a land that has been inseparable from each other since ancient times.
From this springtime perspective, every citizen of Da Nang feels truly proud of the rich "heritage" bestowed by nature, the legacy left by their ancestors, and the achievements of the people of Quang Nam province today. The city's expansive landscape, with its system of seaports, airports, roads, large industrial zones, open economic zones, high-tech zones, and infrastructure projects, as well as public facilities… all seem to be doubled, enriched, and harmonized to gradually shorten the gap between different regions.
If we consider culture as the inherent strength of Quang Nam province from ancient times to the present day, then Da Nang can be considered a land to be proud of. On the city's geographical map, from the mountains to the plains, the coast, and the central urban area, one can find relics everywhere, both tangible and intangible, from ancient times to the medieval and modern periods, including cultural relics and relics of revolutionary and resistance history…

A new mindset in the digital and green era.
This spring reunion also marks a new starting point for leaders, managers, and social administrators, along with all citizens, to reflect, offer suggestions, and discuss the future of the city. The future of the city will have a fresher and more vibrant color than what is happening now.
Previously, concepts such as digital society, digital economy, digital government, and green economy were unfamiliar terms, but now they are present in the daily activities of Party and government agencies, businesses, and citizens. The policy of building Da Nang into a center for innovation and entrepreneurship, linked to the digital and green economy, is no longer just rhetoric in resolutions but has become a reality in daily life.
The city has also achieved the title of "smart city," and is developing a master architectural model for a smart city in the modern world. In particular, the opening of the International Financial Center office on January 9, 2026, is a completely new model, without a currency, requiring extraordinary efforts from the city's Party committee and government.
A significant advantage for Da Nang in undertaking the aforementioned challenging tasks is that a series of resolutions from the Politburo, the National Assembly, and the Government concerning Da Nang in the past, to this day, will undoubtedly continue to have their significance, value, and effectiveness on the new city of Da Nang. The unique and superior mechanisms originally reserved for the (old) city of Da Nang will now be applied to the new city on a larger scale. This creates a major competitive advantage for the city in the coming years.
The 2026 Tet reunion is a Tet celebration that doubles our belief in the new opportunities for our homeland, Quang Nam, contributing to the future springtime picture of the nation. Each individual feels the great transformation of their homeland, gaining a new mindset, new motivation, new faith, and new aspirations, ready to contribute their efforts to the common development, building Da Nang into a truly worthy growth pole of the country; truly becoming the center of the Central and Central Highlands region, striving to be a top locality in implementing the national development strategy until 2030, with a vision to 2045.
