The incident happened in the second minute of extra time in the international friendly match between the German and Vietnamese women's teams. Starting from a quick transition from the away team, substitute player Ngan Thi Van Su passed the ball smoothly upfield.
Thanh Nha made a strong sprint, leaving behind 3 German defenders and rushing forward like an F1 car. The "sideline tornado" of the Vietnamese women's team finished with her left foot to the far corner, defeating goalkeeper Merle Frohms.
This was not only the goal that sealed the 1-2 score for the Vietnamese women's team in this match, but also a historic moment for Thanh Nha herself, when she scored against the world's number 2 team.
Speaking after the match, Thanh Nha said: "I am extremely happy and excited. I am still in a daze now. Even though it was just a friendly match, we were seriously preparing for the World Cup so both teams played their best. Therefore, this goal was very meaningful to me and the team. For me personally, it was an unforgettable historical moment because I tore the net of the world's number two team."
The female player born in 2001 added: "Before the match, we told ourselves to play well and limit the number of goals we conceded, but we didn't think we could score against a strong opponent like Germany.
Deep down, everyone wants to score but it's very difficult. So when the opportunity came, I told myself to take advantage of this moment, and I did. The goal that shortened the gap was a bit lucky but it was the collective effort."
"Hai Yen, Duong Van, Tuyet Dung and Vu Thi Hoa played well and did their job, but the German goalkeeper was too good. Otherwise, the Vietnamese women's team could have had better results.
Anyway, facing a strong opponent also helps us gain many useful lessons towards the World Cup," Thanh Nha expressed regret that the home team could not score more goals.
According to plan, tomorrow (June 26), coach Mai Duc Chung and his team will leave Germany to return to Hanoi . The team will continue to practice at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center.
Thanh Nha, Huynh Nhu and their teammates will go to New Zealand on July 6 and have two more quality friendly matches (against the New Zealand women's team and Spain) before officially participating in the 2023 World Cup.
