Hanoi FC's early advantage
The presence of coach Makoto Teguramori has breathed new life into Hanoi FC, as evidenced by their easy 3-0 victory at HAGL's Pleiku stadium in round 14, where the former V-League champions dominated the game. Although Da Nang FC is improving under coach Le Duc Tuan (earning 5 points in their last 3 matches), they are clearly still inferior to the home team Hanoi FC.
Hanoi FC (in white shirts) need a win to take second place.
In fact, Da Nang FC started well, playing tight defense and putting pressure in midfield to prevent the home team from building up play. The visitors even had a chance to score before Phan Van Long broke through and unleashed a powerful left-footed shot that forced goalkeeper Nguyen Van Hoang to make a difficult save. However, Hanoi FC didn't need a dominant performance; they just needed a moment to take the lead.
In the 33rd minute, Do Hung Dung controlled the ball on the left wing. With a quick sprint, he beat the Da Nang defender and delivered a beautiful cross for Daniel Passira to head the ball into the net. Goalkeeper Bui Tien Dung made a diving effort, but couldn't reach the ball to save the difficult shot from the foreign player who had previously won the top scorer award in the Bolivian league.
After scoring the opening goal, Hanoi FC played more fluidly. However, coach Teguramori's players didn't rush to push forward, instead playing defensively to maintain control of the game. Conversely, Da Nang FC, coached by Le Duc Tuan, tried to build play from the back, but due to poor control of the midfield, the visiting team struggled to launch attacks.
Passira scored the opening goal with a header.
Hanoi FC could have scored more goals in the first half, but missed opportunities meant that coach Teguramori's team only found the net once. In one instance, Hung Dung broke down the right wing and delivered a perfect cross, but Van Toan shot wide when goalkeeper Tien Dung had his goal wide open.
Chase
With nothing left to lose, Da Nang FC rallied in the second half. In the 49th minute, Hanoi's defense faltered, allowing Dinh Duy to break through the center and neatly finish with his right foot, beating goalkeeper Van Hoang.
Exactly two minutes later, Hanoi FC inexplicably slumped, allowing the visiting Da Nang team to comfortably score. Dinh Duy broke free on the left wing and delivered a perfect cross for Van Huu to tap in, making the score 2-1. This was also Da Nang's sixth goal in their last four matches since coach Le Duc Tuan replaced Cristiano Roland at the helm of the team from the Han River.
After two cold showers at the start of the second half, Hanoi FC finally woke up. Van Quyet and his teammates regained control of the game and launched attacks. However, the home team's impatience meant they had to wait until the 66th minute to equalize at 2-2.
Receiving a pass from Van Quyet, Passira shielded the ball perfectly before releasing it to Hai Long, who unleashed a powerful shot to bring the game back to a tie.
Hanoi FC's comeback was completed in the 89th minute. Once again, Hai Long made his mark with a header that created chaos in the penalty area, before the "golden boy" Joao Pedro seized the opportunity to score, securing a 3-2 victory for the home team, Hanoi.
Coming from behind to defeat bottom-placed Da Nang, Hanoi FC climbed to second place with 26 points after 15 rounds. The title race is wide open again for coach Teguramori's team, as the gap to the top is only 4 points, with 11 rounds remaining.
