Continuing the series of activities in the 5th Yen Chau Mango Festival, 2024, on the afternoon of June 9, at Kha village, Sap Vat commune, a folk song and dance competition took place.
Yen Chau is home to 5 ethnic groups, of which the Thai ethnic group is the majority. The unique characteristics in customs and traditional festivals of each ethnic group have created a diverse and rich culture for Yen Chau. In particular, folk songs and dances have been closely associated with the life of ethnic communities in the area for generations and have been preserved and conserved by the ethnic communities.
Participating in the folk song and dance competition, there are 7 teams from the communes: Chieng Khoi, Chieng Pan, Sap Vat, Chieng Sang, Vieng Lan, Chieng Dong and Yen Chau town.
With careful preparation from props, musical instruments to performance costumes, the artisans and non-professional actors have excellently performed the ancient Xoe dances of the Thai people, such as: Xoe raising scarf to invite wine, Xoe splitting four, Xoe holding shoulders, Xoe soc oc... combined with harmonious, flexible, soft innovative Xoe dances and Thai folk songs, Au eo dance of the Khmu people combined with drums and gongs to bring a bustling, joyful atmosphere to the festival, expressing solidarity.
Folk songs and dance performances recreate a form of folk cultural activities with a high community spirit, praising the beauty of the homeland, country, and love between couples, distilled from the working life and activities of ethnic people in Yen Chau district in particular and Son La province in general.
At the end of the folk song and dance competition, the teams and visitors joined the solidarity dance, concluding the Yen Chau Mango Festival 2024.
