Ensuring fairness for candidates in STEM recruitment.
According to data analysis recently released by the Institute of Digital Training and Testing (Vietnam National University, Hanoi ), nearly half of the candidates who took the two rounds of the HSA competency assessment exam organized by this unit chose English as an optional subject.
Specifically, in March, Hanoi National University organized two rounds of HSA 2025 competency assessment exams, round 1 (round 501) on March 15-16, and round 2 (round 502) on March 29-30. The total number of candidates taking the two rounds was 30,793.

Statistics from the data of candidates who took the two aforementioned exams show that, for the elective section, nearly half of the candidates chose English (47.1%). The percentage of candidates choosing other subject combinations is as follows: Physics - Chemistry - History 16.6%; Physics - Chemistry - Biology 11.3%; History - Geography - Physics 7.4%; History - Geography - Biology 5.7%; the remaining 6 combinations had less than 5% of candidates taking the exam.
According to Professor Nguyen Tien Thao, Chairman of the HSA 2025 Examination Council, this year, the Ministry of Education and Training requires institutions organizing separate exams to convert to a 30-point scale to serve the admission process of universities. To ensure fairness for candidates, the HSA 2025 examination council will independently convert scores for the compulsory and optional sections. Universities will base their admissions on the score distribution and the components of the exam that meet the quality requirements for entry into their respective training programs.
This independent conversion aims to ensure the rights of groups of candidates using combinations of multiple natural science subjects (physics, chemistry, biology), helping training institutions recruit candidates with suitable abilities to study STEM fields (science, technology, and mathematics).
The score distribution for the HSA aptitude test shows a slight upward trend.
According to Professor Nguyen Tien Thao, the results of the data analysis from the 501st and 502nd rounds of the HSA 2025 exam show that the score distribution of the HSA exam for 30,793 candidates follows a normal distribution with a median at 80/150; an average score of 80.2/150; and a standard deviation of 14.6.
The highest score in the recent exams was 130/150 (this score was achieved by a candidate who chose the science section as part of a combination of physics, chemistry, and biology). The lowest score was only 18/150.

Statistical distribution of test scores shows that the percentage of candidates achieving 110/150 points or higher is 2.1%; 105/150 or higher is 2.1%; 100/150 or higher is 10.1%; 90/150 or higher is 27%; 80/150 or higher is 51.1%; and 75/150 or higher is 63.4%.
Compared to the March exams of previous years, the scores in the 2025 exam tend to increase slightly. This increase is due to candidates being able to choose either the science or English section according to their abilities and strengths.
Therefore, it is highly likely that the admission scores based on the HSA 2025 exam results will be higher than in previous years.
