Of the four seasons of the year, spring is always the season favored by poetry and art, becoming an endless source of inspiration for poets. Countless poems have been born before the arrival of spring, further enhancing the vibrant energy of the season.
Artists from the Provincial Association of Literature and Arts moved the audience with their outstanding creations.
The overflowing emotions of the poet-soldier.
As a soldier who emerged from the flames of war, poet Le Manh Hung, now over seventy years old, always feels a surge of emotion before each new spring. The poet shared: "To have such beautiful springs as today, countless sons and daughters sacrificed their youth for the country so that independence could blossom and freedom could flourish. When the country faced foreign invaders, our youth, answering the sacred call of the Fatherland and President Ho Chi Minh, eagerly took up arms and went to the front lines, fighting for the cause of national liberation and reunification. The Party and President Ho Chi Minh always resided in the hearts of the soldiers; therefore, I wrote many poems expressing my love, respect, and pride in the contributions of the Party and President Ho Chi Minh."
For poet Le Manh Hung, the path to poetry was as natural as breathing in everyday life. Inheriting a love of poetry from his mother's sweet lullabies in childhood, when he became a soldier, on marches, he always carried a small notebook with him, recording poems about the revolution, about President Ho Chi Minh, about his homeland and country. His first work presented to the public was the poem "Homeland and Mother," "This Spring, Mother Still Accompanies Me," published in Thai Binh Newspaper. Years have passed, but he still cherishes and preserves those newspaper pages as sacred mementos marking his journey to becoming a poet.
Recalling the past and telling new stories through spring poems.
Each spring brings a sense of excitement to people's hearts at the changing seasons, evoking a multitude of emotions and joys for poets. Poet Pham Hong Oanh, the youngest member of the Vietnam Writers Association in Thai Binh province and also a member of the Provincial Literature and Arts Association, said: "When spring arrives, people also feel more vibrant, refreshed, and youthful. It seems that before spring, we forget our busyness, hardships, and age, and instead look towards spring, thinking of it with a more pure and auspicious light."
Although she has published many excellent poems in three volumes published by the Vietnam Writers Association Publishing House, two of which are inspired by the seasons and have received awards from the National Committee of the Vietnam Union of Literature and Arts Associations, the poem "Pickled Cucumbers," written 32 years ago, remains a beautiful memory for poet Pham Hong Oanh. The poet shared: "I wrote 'Pickled Cucumbers' when I was a third-year student at Thai Binh Teacher Training College. The inspiration for the poem came about quite spontaneously. I was thinking about the jar of pickled cucumbers I had painstakingly made for my mother, but it had gone wrong. I thought that everything in life, even with just a slight oversight, could be like that spoiled jar of pickled cucumbers. That's when I quickly wrote the poem 'Pickled Cucumbers.' The poem reflects many anxieties and reflections on the changes in people and time."
As one of the successful members of the Provincial Literature and Arts Association in 2023, poet Dang Toan has a manuscript that won an encouragement award from the Vietnam Writers Association and will be published as a book in 2024. His poems are all aimed at children because "youth is the spring of society." Poet Dang Toan said: "I write about what is most familiar to children and grandchildren so that they can appreciate beauty, and focus on the most familiar and close things around them. Through these poems, I can convey something incredibly valuable. Through my verses, I guide children towards family, nature, and the plants around them, wanting them to better understand and cherish the beautiful emotional relationships within their families, their parents, grandparents... and at the same time, appreciate nature, plants, and the good things in their lives."

This momentum gives us confidence and great optimism about the positive progress of poetry in Thai Binh in the future. ![]() Poet Dang Thanh Van, Head of the Literature Branch, Provincial Association of Literature and Arts Throughout the four seasons of the year, poets are often inspired by spring, resulting in numerous works about the season, evoking a sense of youthfulness, freshness, and hope for a brighter future. As a war veteran bearing the scars of war, for the past 25 years I have composed many poems praising the Party, President Ho Chi Minh, and my homeland during springtime. ![]() Poet Lai Tay Duong, Provincial Association of Literature and Arts There's a saying, "Heaven and Earth have four seasons, spring is the first." I have many poems about spring, such as "Celebrating Tet in the Village," "Improvisations on Spring," etc. Each spring evokes in me a joyful feeling about village festivals from twilight, sunset, to the late hours of the night, and throughout the morning; the poems and songs have permeated my soul. Throughout the years, I have carried that feeling within me. |
