Support for high school graduation exam preparation
AI is becoming an indispensable "piece" for many high school students when it provides a variety of learning utilities such as designing mock high school graduation exams, analyzing questions, and practicing answering reflexes, according to Tran Diep Phuong Linh, a 12th grade student (Han Thuyen High School, Ho Chi Minh City). "I usually spend about 2 to 3 hours a day studying with the support of AI, when studying in depth, the time will be longer," the female student said.
"During the 'sprint' days, I asked AI to simulate the types of predicted questions to practice answering skills in time," Linh added.
Nguyen Quang Nhut Phat, a student at the same school, also said that he spends about 2 hours a day reviewing for exams with AI, especially using this tool to summarize and explain concepts in lessons, thereby helping the male student consolidate knowledge and broaden his thinking.
The role of AI is even more emphasized when the structure of the 2025 high school graduation exam has many changes, for example, the literature subject will now use materials outside of textbooks. "This is the part where I use AI quite a lot. I often ask ChatGPT or Gemini to suggest the structure of the essay, find literary references outside of textbooks or references in life, helping me not get stuck. I also practice writing concisely and to the point thanks to feedback from AI," Linh said.
Although she often relies on AI for help, Linh said she "doesn't depend on them". Because this is just where she finds ideas and information for her essay. After reading and filtering the necessary information, she rewrites it in her own style so as not to lose her own uniqueness. As for elective subjects such as history and geography, Linh only uses AI to search and synthesize theories because it saves time and is highly accurate.
Especially in the last days of exam preparation, Linh wanted to be able to independently solve the questions to determine her own ability as well as to not be "confused" when entering the real exam.

Meanwhile, during this time, Phat often relies on AI to guide him on how to express and use words appropriately in the context of the issue to be discussed. "In this regard, it is quite good, but in analyzing rhetorical and artistic devices, AI is not completely correct," he said. Phat added that sometimes he is "a bit dependent" on AI, but he only uses these tools to look up and reinforce the theory because the accuracy is quite high.
Both Linh and Phat agree that learning with AI is highly effective because it allows for consultation and saves time looking up information, but to make learning with AI truly effective, one should not learn passively but actively interact with AI, select information and apply it to real lessons.
AI cannot be a "substitute"
Mr. Tran Trung Quan, a physics teacher at Nguyen Huu Tien High School (HCMC), said that students using AI to review for high school graduation exams is "normal" because AI is gradually dominating many areas of life, including teaching and learning. "AI helps students speed up their review and find answers and solutions to difficult problems. However, it is necessary to be careful in using the knowledge provided by AI tools," Mr. Quan noted.
There is no guarantee that the knowledge provided by AI is always accurate, even the ChatGPT operator notes that "ChatGPT may make mistakes, please check important information". So the most important factor is that students must always have a solid grasp of background knowledge, always need to carefully select information when using AI when looking up or solving problems to avoid being "led by the nose" by these tools, the male teacher emphasized.
According to Mr. Quan, students should only consider AI as a support tool, not a shortcut to "acquiring knowledge". "If AI is overused, students may gradually lose their ability to think and react in solving problems that require the application of skills and comprehensive knowledge", Mr. Quan warned.

Agreeing, a math teacher in Ho Chi Minh City said she does not encourage students to use AI to review for exams because she believes students should review on their own to master skills and problem-solving methods. "Students can use AI as a support tool and view the answers for reference purposes, while regularly checking against information sources from documents, books, and outlines to ensure accuracy," she said.
Master Bui Manh Hung, founder and operator of Aiducation - aneducational AI application, said that AI can increase the speed of knowledge acquisition by 30% or personalize the learning path..., thereby improving learning efficiency. But for candidates about to take the high school graduation exam, he also advises that you have enough background knowledge to analyze the field you are asking about, evaluate whether the solution is correct and reasonable, and then give the most accurate assessment and answer.
Basic knowledge is extremely important not only for students but also for anyone in any field using AI to support their work. "AI should only be a strong support arm, not let yourself depend on AI," said Mr. Hung.
