Admission based on academic records combined with additional criteria

As of February 2024, nearly 100 higher education institutions nationwide have announced the use of high school transcripts in the 2024 admissions season. Among these, many schools have set additional criteria.

In 2024, Hanoi National University of Education plans to enroll about 4,400 students with 5 admission methods including: Admission based on the results of the 2024 high school graduation exam; Direct admission; Review of high school transcripts; Entrance exam (aptitude test, capacity assessment test); Combination of entrance exam and admission.

In the method of considering high school transcripts, the school requires that the registration condition for teacher training majors is that the candidate must have good conduct in all 6 semesters of high school and good academic performance in 3 years or better.

For the French language education major, if the candidate is a bilingual French student, the academic requirement is to have completed grade 12 with honors; for the technology education major, the academic requirement is to have completed grade 12 with honors.

This year, Ho Chi Minh City Banking University will enroll students through 5 methods, in which the admission method based on academic records will have additional conditions combined with high school achievements.

This method applies to candidates graduating in 2023 and 2024 and satisfying the following conditions: average score of semester I, semester II of grade 11 and semester I of grade 12 is from 6.5 or higher; converted score for admission based on average of registered subject combinations of the last 3 semesters is from 72 or higher.

Foreign Trade University said that in 2024, the school will maintain the same regular university admission methods as in 2023 with 6 admission methods.

In particular, the school considers high school transcripts with 3 groups of candidates: participating/winning prizes in the national excellent student competition or in the national science and technology competition; winning prizes (first, second, third) in provincial/city excellent students in grade 11 or grade 12, and candidates in the specialized system of national key high schools/specialized high schools.

The school requires candidates to meet the additional condition of having a total score of the 2024 high school graduation exam subjects of one of the school's admission subject groups (including regional and subject priority points) of 24 points or higher.

What should candidates note?

According to the Ministry of Education and Training's plan, by the end of February 2024, the Ministry will issue regulations for high school graduation exams.

The regulations are completed on the basis of the draft regulations amending and supplementing a number of articles of the regulations on high school graduation exams issued with Circular No. 15/2020/TT-BGDDT, amended and supplemented by Circular No. 05/2021/TT-BGDDT and Circular No. 06/2023/TT-BGDDT of the Ministry of Education and Training.

This draft was publicly posted by the Ministry for public comments over the past two months (from December 15, 2023 to February 15, 2024).

According to a representative of the Ministry of Education and Training, the contents of the exam regulations do not affect the candidates' plans to review for the high school graduation exam and participate in the admission process to universities and colleges in 2024.

At this time, candidates need to focus on studying and reviewing according to the school's instructions and the sample exam questions announced by the Ministry of Education and Training; at the same time, fully and accurately update the enrollment plans of higher education institutions to grasp this year's enrollment methods.

From the information on the admission plans that schools have announced, it can be seen that this year's admission methods have not changed much. Some schools have eliminated one method, added another, or adjusted the quota between methods.

The Ministry of Education and Training notes that when updating and looking up information on school admission plans, candidates should pay special attention to the conditions attached to each admission method.

Reality from last year's entrance exam shows that many candidates subjectively did not pay attention to the accompanying conditions, so they fell into situations where they passed but failed or had to spend a lot of time solving the problem.
