Previously, on the morning of June 5, candidates went to the examination sites to listen to the regulations, note the time to be present at the examination site, items allowed to be brought into the examination room as well as check and correct information errors (if any).
This morning (June 6), candidates took the Literature exam, which lasted 120 minutes. In the afternoon of the same day, they continued to take the Foreign Language exam, which lasted 90 minutes.
This is the first year of the exam according to the 2018 General Education Program, so the 10th grade exam is highly anticipated. In particular, the Literature exam will not use the materials of all 3 current textbooks.
According to the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, this year's exam had 76,435 candidates, a decrease of 27,330 students compared to last year. The total enrollment target for grade 10 of 115 public high schools is 70,070 students.
The number of 9th graders has decreased significantly compared to previous years, which means less competitive pressure to enter public 10th grade.
Specifically, there are only more than 6,000 candidates who failed to get into public schools, a sharp decrease compared to the level of about 20,000 candidates in previous years. Meanwhile, the private school system has nearly 19,500 places.
The exam took place at 142 exam locations including 132 schools and 10 specialized locations with a total of 3,277 exam rooms.
To ensure the exam takes place seriously and safely, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training has mobilized 9,548 teachers to invigilate the exam and 1,846 support staff and applied security procedures similar to the high school graduation exam.
