Participating in the Vietnamese Family Home, Miss Doan Thien An supports tuition fees for orphans and opens a grocery store for an old lady struggling to raise her grandchildren alone. Musician Vuong Anh Tu uses his own money to share the difficulties of children who lack parental love.
Episode 111 of the program Vietnamese Family Home with the participation of two guests, musician Vuong Anh Tu and beauty queen Doan Thien An, joined forces to help three disadvantaged children, Y Bich (2012), Trinh Minh Phat (2011) and Mai Hoai Thuong (2013), bring home valuable prizes to cover their living expenses.
At the beginning of the program, Miss Doan Thien An said that she is a big fan of Vietnamese Family Home and she watches almost every episode. Being an emotional person, Thien An has never been able to hold back her tears when following the situations of the characters. Therefore, the beauty queen feels very happy to have the opportunity to participate in the program to help those in difficult situations.
The first case is Y Bich (2012), living in Sa Thay district, Kon Tum province. Bich's father died when she was 2 years old due to a traffic accident. Since childhood, she has lived in the love of her mother. Ironically, in March 2024, her mother died of cancer. Now, Bich lives with her half-sister in the family's old house.
Her older sister, Y Thi Thanh Yen (2006), only studied until grade 7 because her family was poor. Now she has a husband and a 1-year-old daughter. Previously, Thanh Yen did freelance work such as planting rice, growing corn, etc., but now because she has a small child, she only stays at home to take care of the child and cook for her husband and sister. Thanh Yen's husband also works for hire and earns about 150,000 VND per day, but because it depends on the season, his income is unstable.
In addition, Y Bich and her sister also take care of their grandmother who is over 80 years old and blind and lives next door. Every day, Y Bich goes to clean the house and cook for her before going to school. "I also work part-time, when I come home I go pick noodles and pull weeds to earn money to help my sister ," Y Bich said. Her mother was treated for cancer for many years but could not be cured and then passed away, so every time she thinks about her mother, she feels sad and cries a lot. She dreamed of becoming a doctor to treat her mother, but before she could do it, her mother passed away.
Having lost her father at a young age, now her mother is gone, her older sister still has to take care of her small family and her grandmother, which is extremely difficult, so Y Bich loves her very much. Because her family is so poor, she has not eaten meat for a long time. Her family often has no money, nothing to eat, and has to eat rice with cassava leaves, or pick up boiled cassava roots and dip them in salt to get by.
Faced with the character's difficult situation, Miss Doan Thien An sobbed with sympathy. " I sympathize with you because my mother also died of cancer. So more than anyone, I understand the loss when a child loses his or her father or mother. Now that your mother is gone, I am here to take care of you until the end of grade 12 ," Miss Thien An said.
Singer and songwriter Vuong Anh Tu feels sorry for what Y Bich has gone through. The male singer hopes that the characters have a lot of determination to overcome difficulties in life. He believes that trying their best will bring good results in the future. pulling up boiled cassava with salt to eat every day.
The next case is Trinh Minh Phat (13 years old), a student at Nguyen Tat Thanh Secondary School, Dak Song District, Dak Nong Province. Minh Phat's father passed away 5 years ago due to nasopharyngeal cancer. Since then, he has lived with his mother, grandmother and 2 younger siblings.
“ When my father was alive, he often taught me to be a good person. Many nights I stood in front of his altar, lit incense and said, ‘Dad, come back to me, I miss you so much,’ but I know that he will never come back, ” Phat said. Now, my mother is the greatest support I have, and I love her very much and am worried about her health.
Minh Phat's mother, Luong Thi Nhung (1981), has a very unstable job. She is often hired to weed the fields, rake the soil, irrigate, etc., but her income is unstable because she does not always have work. Since her husband passed away, Nhung has been supporting the whole family by herself, taking care of 3 young children and her mother, who is nearly 80 years old. Nhung said that no matter how much harder it is, she will not dare to give up and will always try, because she understands that she is the only one left who can take care of her children.
Minh Phat's younger brother is Trinh Phat Tam, a 5th grader. His younger sister Trinh Kim Tuyen is only 6 years old and has a congenital heart disease, so she is always weak. Ironically, Tuyen also has Down syndrome, so she cannot communicate. The doctor said that her heart has many holes, so it is compressed, making it difficult to breathe, and she is too young and weak to have surgery. Tuyen has to go to the hospital every month, and each visit costs 1,500,000 VND.
When Phat's father was in the hospital, his mother was also taking care of him in the hospital. The family had no income for a long time, so they had to send Phat and his younger brother to live in a temple temporarily. Later, his mother took them back to let them go to school. The family of five is currently living in a dilapidated house, old and broken everywhere, so they have to cover it with plastic. The floor is low, so rain often floods into the house, the walls are slippery, so the wind blows in very coldly. Luckily, the neighbor's house next door blocks the wind. Because he is afraid that the house will collapse, Phat cannot sleep well. He goes upstairs to sleep first because he is afraid that the house will suddenly collapse, so he can easily escape.
Appearing on the show, Ms. Nhung's face was tired and exhausted because of the heavy burden of her family. For her, her biggest concern right now is the health of her youngest child who has a heart disease. During the show, she burst into tears because she was afraid that one day her child would not be able to fight the disease anymore and would leave. Her pain also made the artists and the audience choke up. As a sensible child, Minh Phat always took the initiative to help his mother with housework. He dreams of becoming a doctor to treat his younger sister and earn money to take care of his family.
Miss Doan Thien An emotionally said: “ I know you love your father very much, but sometimes you have to learn to put the pain aside to continue moving forward. You are also a son, so in the future the whole family will depend on you, so you have to be strong. To motivate you, I will take care of your studies until the end of grade 12. I do this because I remember when my family was still in difficulty, my mother did many things to help her children get a good education .” The beauty queen believes thateducation will contribute to creating a good future for children. Therefore, she hopes that everyone will join hands to create conditions for children to go to school fully.
Musician Vuong Anh Tu could not hide his emotion when he saw the image of a woman who lost her husband early and had to raise 3 children and her elderly mother alone. He gave many words of encouragement and comfort to the children and expressed that he would try his best to support them in their challenges.
The remaining situation is Mai Hoai Thuong (2013), a student at Xuan Son Primary and Secondary School, Van Ninh District, Khanh Hoa Province. Hoai Thuong's father died 4 years ago due to an electric shock. After that, her mother also had a new family and lived separately, only occasionally coming back to visit her family. Currently, Hoai Thuong lives with her grandmother and younger brother.
My grandmother, Mrs. Pham Thi Duc (born 1955), raised two grandchildren by herself by working as a water carrier. Each time she transported 2 water jugs (20 liters) on an old electric bike or bicycle. Each time she delivered water, she earned 5,000 VND/jug. Some days, she transported 20 jugs, earning about 100,000 VND, but there were also days when she could not transport any jugs, making her income extremely unstable.
Hoai Thuong's younger brother is Mai Thanh Sang (2015), this year in 4th grade. Thanh Sang is much smaller than his peers because he has congenital hydrocephalus. Despite his serious illness, Thanh Sang is very intelligent, quick-witted, knows how to help his grandmother and sister with housework, loves his grandmother very much, and is afraid that if she passes away, he will have no one by his side. The image of an elderly grandmother having to carry water every day to deliver, carrying heavy water jugs to earn money to raise her grandchildren makes the artists choke up.
Participating in the program, little Thanh Sang stood there sobbing because he missed his grandmother and father. Because he was too young, he could not have surgery, and the disease kept him from growing up. He always dreamed of studying hard so that he could earn a lot of money to build a house for his grandmother.
Miss Doan Thien An burst into tears because she felt so sorry for the character's situation. " A child is no longer grown up, but his heart is still big, his thoughts are still big. When a child understands, he is always at a disadvantage. Earlier, I supported the other two families to go to school, now I will also support the two children to go to school until grade 12. And grandma, I don't want to see Phat's grandma carry water every day anymore. I will send Phat's family an additional 20 million VND so that his grandma can open a grocery store, both to have income and to be able to be by his side every day to take care of her grandchildren ", the beauty queen shared.
Listening to the situation of all three characters, singer and musician Vuong Anh Tu could not hide his emotion. He said that he is not a good communicator, and did not know what to say other than to encourage and motivate the children to try harder. Therefore, he decided to give each family 10 million VND with the hope of giving the children more motivation to cover their daily expenses.
Witnessing the extremely difficult circumstances of the characters, the two guests were determined to overcome all the challenges of the program to bring back the best results, helping the children receive a valuable amount of money to cover their living expenses.
During the 5-minute sub-competition, musician Vuong Anh Tu and beauty queen Doan Thien An performed the rice pounding challenge. The two guests used the familiar pestle and mortar of the Central Highlands to pound 2kg of rice into flour. At first, Thien An found the challenge quite difficult as the rice kept flying up. Musician Vuong Anh Tu, despite feeling tired, did not dare to stop for fear of failing the challenge. A moment later, the audience in the studio directly demonstrated and supported the guests. After a while of struggling, Vuong Anh Tu and Doan Thien An won priority for the families.
In the main competition, musician Vuong Anh Tu and Miss Doan Thien An took turns with the children to take on the challenge of fishing and catching crabs. During this competition, during the filming in Buon Ma Thuot City, it suddenly started to rain heavily. However, the local audience still stayed in large numbers to watch, support the program and accompany the families in need. Musician Vuong Anh Tu, Miss Doan Thien An and the Vietnamese Family Home crew also braved the rain to continue filming and quickly overcame the challenges.
Miss Doan Thien An shared: “ Although it was raining heavily, Thien An felt very happy and excited because she could accompany the children in the rounds, so that they had the opportunity to bring home prizes in the Vietnamese Family Warmth program. Although it was raining heavily, Thien An did not feel tired or worried at all. Thien An is very grateful to the program for creating a healthy playground, where children in difficult circumstances can overcome themselves, become stronger and can partly overcome themselves in life. Through that, it also helps them to overcome difficulties. Thien An would also like to thank the people in Dak Lak who, despite the heavy rain, still stayed until the end to watch the program and support the difficult circumstances .”
After the rounds, Y Bich's family received a prize of 15 million VND. Mai Hoai Thuong's family came in second, receiving 20 million VND. Trinh Minh Phat's family continued to enter the special round, winning 3 logo boards with a prize of 60 million VND.
Previously, Miss Doan Thien An gave Mai Hoai Thuong's family 20 million VND so that her grandmother could open a grocery store. The beauty queen also decided to sponsor the tuition fees for the children of 3 families to study up to grade 12, and also gave Y Bich a bicycle. Singer and musician Vuong Anh Tu also gave each family 10 million VND. In addition, the program and artists also organized direct donations at the recording session. The total amount of money that benefactors and local people watched and gave to the families was up to nearly 90 million VND.
Thus, with the support of musician Vuong Anh Tu and beauty queen Doan Thien An, along with the best efforts of the three families, they brought home a total prize of 95 million VND from Hoa Sen Group along with many meaningful gifts.
