Candidates are wondering: Will the 2024 Hanoi 10th grade entrance exam scores be reduced or not?

On July 1, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training announced the benchmark scores for grade 10 admission in 2024. Minh Huong (grade 9 student at Le Quy Don Secondary School, Cau Giay) wondered whether the re-examination of the grade 10 entrance exam in Hanoi in 2024 would reduce the score or not.

Regarding whether or not to re-evaluate the exam, teacher Nguyen Thuy Nhu (a Math teacher at a high school in Phu Xuyen district, Hanoi) said that before deciding to re-evaluate the exam, candidates should review the official answers of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training as well as calculate according to the scoring scale provided by the Department. At the same time, candidates should discuss carefully with their families and teachers about the status of the exam to be re-evaluated, and any suspicious details that could change the score.

"Candidates can only really review their exam papers when they clearly remember the exam process and are confident that they can score at least 0.5-1 point higher than the scale announced by the Hanoi Department of Education and Training," said Ms. Nhu.

Ms. Mai Hoa (name changed), a teacher with many years of experience grading 10th grade Literature exams in Hanoi, said that the grading process in Hanoi is currently being strictly implemented and there are almost no errors because the exams are graded very carefully through 2 rounds. Therefore, Ms. Hoa advises candidates to consider carefully because there is a possibility that when the exam is re-graded, the candidate's score will no longer be the same as the first time, which is very disadvantageous for the candidate.

This year, the whole city has over 117,000 candidates registered for the exam; of which nearly 106,000 candidates registered for the public 10th grade exam; over 11,000 candidates registered for the specialized subject exam; over 250 candidates took the dual degree exam.

According to statistics from the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, in the 2023-2024 school year, there will be about 133,000 students graduating from junior high school, an increase of more than 5,000 compared to 2023. It is expected that 81,200 students will be admitted to public high schools (accounting for more than 60%, similar to last year), 29,100 students will study in private schools (21.5%), the rest will go to continuing education centers and vocational schools.
