Specialist Doctor I Mai Van Luc - Department of Nephrology and Urology Surgery, E Hospital said that recently, the department received a female patient with kidney failure at the age of 18. This female student had to be hospitalized in the middle of the night due to severe pain in the lumbar region, nausea, and painful urination.

The test results shocked many people because her kidneys were severely inflamed and contained many small stones, including a 4mm stone that blocked the ureter, causing complications that caused severe inflammation of the kidney tissue, almost turning the kidney to stone.

The young girl was diagnosed with severe kidney inflammation due to ureteral stones blocking the flow of urine. It is worth mentioning that the cause of the disease came from the patient's seemingly harmless eating habits.

Through medical history, the patient said that she had a long-standing habit of eating instant noodles and almost used this dish instead of rice. This girl was also especially addicted to milk tea and was lazy to drink water.

Doctor Luc said that this is a combination of habits that are seriously harmful to kidney health. Eating too many instant noodles can create a “huge” burden on the kidneys because instant noodles contain high levels of salt, preservatives and additives.

In addition, abusing milk tea can also cause the kidneys to work continuously to filter and excrete, increasing pressure on the kidneys because this drink contains high levels of sugar, trans fat and flavoring.

The habit of drinking little water can also reduce the kidney's filtering function, creating conditions for mineral deposits to accumulate over time into stones. When the body is not supplied with enough water, the unexcreted residue will crystallize in the urinary tract. In the long term, this can increase the risk of stone formation and cause many other dangerous complications.

According to Dr. Luc, many young people today are facing kidney and urinary problems at a very young age. The cause comes from an unhealthy lifestyle such as: unscientific eating, overuse of fast food, sugary drinks, lack of exercise, and drinking little water.

According to Dr. Luc, the case of the 18-year-old female patient above is a serious and urgent warning to young people.

Nowadays, many people only really care about their kidneys when they have to face severe pain or complications such as kidney failure, infection, etc. that require surgical intervention. However, Dr. Luc believes that we should not wait until the pain or illness strikes to regret it, but that each person needs to proactively prevent kidney disease early.

To prevent kidney disease, especially kidney stones in young people, Dr. Luc recommends that everyone should: Drink enough water, at least 2 liters of water per day, divided evenly throughout the day; limit the consumption of instant noodles and fast food; avoid overusing milk tea and carbonated soft drinks; increase physical activity and build a reasonable lifestyle.
