DeSantis will make the announcement on Twitter during a discussion with Twitter CEO Elon Musk, his political team confirmed. At the same time, he will file a document with the Federal Election Commission to formally declare his candidacy.

Mr. Musk has confirmed that he will appear on a webcast at a conference hosted by The Wall Street Journal. “At this time, I have no intention of endorsing any particular candidate, but I am interested in Twitter becoming a hub for candidates to speak,” he said.
Governor DeSantis won the US midterm elections easily last November. With a prominent Republican profile and strong fundraising ability, he could be the biggest threat to Mr Trump in next year's race.
Mr. DeSantis is only 44 years old, much younger than Mr. Trump who is 76 years old.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, DeSantis has become a national face against mask and vaccine mandates and has been a fierce critic of Dr. Anthony Fauci, the head of the government 's COVID-19 response.
In speeches, he has argued that his policies can help Florida recover economically from the pandemic, turning the state into a magnet for hundreds of thousands of new residents. Florida has consistently outpaced the nation in job growth over the past two years.
In recent months, without formally declaring his candidacy, Mr. DeSantis has traveled across the country, visiting states like Iowa and New Hampshire, which will hold early elections next year, and touting his achievements in Florida.
