NDO - On the afternoon of April 26, the People's Council of Lao Cai province, term XVI, 2021-2026, held its 29th session (session to resolve arising work), passing many important Resolutions on the merger of the province and communes in the area.

At the meeting, delegates voted to pass the Resolution on merging Lao Cai and Yen Bai provinces under the name Lao Cai province. This Resolution was connected online for delegates of the People's Councils of the two provinces to participate in the vote.

The new Lao Cai province after the merger has a natural area of ​​13,256.92 ^km2 (165.7% of the prescribed standard); the population size is 1,656,590 people (184% of the prescribed standard).

The new Lao Cai province's political and administrative center is located in Yen Bai city, Yen Bai province (currently). The geographical location of the new Lao Cai province borders Tuyen Quang province, Phu Tho province, Son La province and Lai Chau province; the People's Republic of China.

After the merger, Lao Cai province has 99 commune-level administrative units, including 10 wards and 89 communes.

The meeting also passed a Resolution on merging communes of Lao Cai province (currently) and a number of other important Resolutions.

Accordingly, after the reorganization, Lao Cai province (currently) has 48 commune-level administrative units, including 45 communes and 3 wards. The number of commune-level administrative units reduced due to the reorganization is 103 administrative units, including 81 communes, 13 wards, and 9 towns.

Thereby, the meeting agreed and voted to pass 6 resolutions to promptly give opinions on the policy of arranging commune-level administrative units, the policy of merging Lao Cai and Yen Bai provinces, and a number of other important contents to carry out the socio -economic development tasks of the province.

The Resolutions passed at the session are an important legal basis for implementing urgent contents. Therefore, the Lao Cai Provincial People's Council requests the Provincial People's Committee to direct all levels, sectors and localities to focus on implementing the Resolutions passed by the Provincial People's Council, with a proactive, creative and synchronous spirit, so that the Resolutions achieve practical results.
