Once a student in the specialized Math class at Bac Giang High School for the Gifted, right from the moment she entered the National Economics University, Mai Sao set a goal of winning scholarships to cover her tuition fees.

Sao’s mother is a retired civil servant, and her father is a freelancer. “Because my father’s health is a bit poor, his income is unstable. So when I went to university, I had to consider whether I should work part-time to help my parents or focus on getting a scholarship. After that, I was determined to study to both gain knowledge and get a scholarship to help my parents with some of their expenses.”

Once she has a goal, before each new week, Sao often proactively plans the whole week so as not to waste any time. However, the female student still sets aside a "free" day during the week to relax or finish unfinished tasks such as calculations.

In addition, in most subjects, Sao often reads the textbook before coming to class. When reading the lesson in advance, the female student also asks herself questions about the problems. If she cannot answer, Sao writes them down to ask her friends and teachers to answer them the next day.

“I think whether you are in college or high school, the most important thing is to take notes, do your homework diligently and concentrate. That way you will have a deeper understanding of what you have learned and thus remember it longer,” the female student said.

Thanks to this secret, for 4 years, Mai Sao always maintained an all-A grade. “Only in the subject of Party History in the second year, because I was too busy with extracurricular activities, I got a B+. After that 'stumble', I looked back at the reason and improved my own shortcomings.”

Thanks to this determination, Mai Sao participated and entered the top 50 of the 5th political essay contest on Protecting the Party's ideological foundation in 2025 in Hanoi .

In addition, the female student also won 7/7 scholarships, Bronze Medal in the 2024 National Student Olympiad in Algebra; First Prize in the 2024 National Economics University Math Olympiad in Algebra; Top 5 Student Leaders 2023; 5 Good Students...

Motivation from the name

Mai Sao said that almost everyone who meets her for the first time is curious about her name Nguyen Hoang Anh Mai Sao. “It sounds a bit long, but it is a very special name to me. Nguyen Hoang is a combination of my father's and mother's last names, to mark the loving bond in the family. Anh Sao Mai is a small but warm ray of light.

The name helps me get a lot of attention, which also motivates me to do everything well. In addition, I always feel that the name is a gentle reminder: No matter what life is like, I should try to be a positive, gentle and resilient light in the dark days.

I chose the Auditing major because it sounded… impressive, but when I actually started studying and experiencing it, Mai Sao understood that the nature of independent auditing is not simply checking accounting but also giving opinions on whether financial statements are prepared honestly and reasonably.

Determined to “stick” with the profession, in her third year, Mai Sao registered for an internship position at Deloitte - one of the four largest auditing firms in the world. After three rigorous rounds of selection with 500 applications, the female student from the National Economics University became one of the 10 chosen. Currently, Mai Sao has been officially accepted, starting work from next September.

The practical experience of working in a professional environment has helped Mai Sao better understand the pressure, responsibility and value of the auditing profession. From then on, Sao is more determined and strives to improve her knowledge, skills and professional qualities to prepare well for the upcoming journey after graduation.

“My future plan is to work well at Deloitte, gradually become a good auditor and always maintain integrity in the profession,” Mai Sao said.

Dr. Vu Van Ngoc, Director of the Institute of Advanced, High-Quality Training and POHE, National Economics University, was impressed by Mai Sao as an outstanding student, possessing professional qualities, critical thinking, political courage and dedication.

“With discipline, constant effort and dedication in every job, I believe Mai Sao will continue to shine and make positive contributions to the development of the auditing industry,” said Dr. Vu Van Ngoc.

On July 21, the National Economics University held a 2025 regular graduation ceremony for more than 1,800 new graduates of the Advanced, High-Quality, POHE and Business Analysis programs.

Prof. Dr. Pham Hong Chuong - Director of the National Economics University said that this is a special group of students because they entered the school in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic. However, in that context, the students have demonstrated their mettle and inner strength to complete the 4-year journey of studying, accumulating knowledge and skills.

“I believe that you are ready and will apply your knowledge and skills well into practice, be independent in thinking, turn difficulties and challenges into opportunities to assert yourself and create good values,” said Professor Pham Hong Chuong.

The admission score to the National Economics University may decrease by 1-2 points . Forecasting the admission score to the National Economics University this year, Dr. Le Anh Duc said that the score may be 1-2 points lower depending on the major.
