TASS news agency quoted a statement posted on the official website of the Indian Government on May 14, in which Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized that India's air defense system, including the Russian-made S-400 Triumph complex, played a decisive role in Operation Sindoor. At the same time, the Indian leader also praised the domestically produced Akash missile system.

Earlier, The Times of India reported that Prime Minister Modi visited the Adampur air base in Punjab state. Here, the Indian Prime Minister took a photo with the S-400 system purchased from Russia.
"Platforms like the S-400 have given unprecedented strength to the country. Building a strong security shield has become India's identity," Prime Minister Modi said while standing in front of the S-400 air defense system and MiG-29 light fighters at the base.
Earlier, on May 7, India launched Operation Sindoor, conducting a series of missile strikes on suspected terrorist bases in Pakistan and the Islamabad-controlled Kashmir region.
In response to India, Pakistan launched a major military operation called Operation Bunyanun Marsoos (meaning concrete structure) and Adampur was one of the targets attacked by Pakistan.
The Pakistani military then announced that it had deployed JF-17 fighters to fire a series of supersonic missiles at Adampur, claiming to have destroyed the S-400 system deployed there but did not provide evidence. According to Indian media, Mr. Modi's visit was clear evidence to deny the Pakistani military's claim of destroying the S-400.

The S-400 is considered one of the most advanced long-range air defense systems in the world . This air defense system can destroy fighter jets, warships and ballistic missiles. In addition, the S-400 can attack targets at a distance of 400km and an altitude of 30km under heavy enemy fire. The radar of this air defense system can track targets up to 600km away.
According to India Today, the first S-400 air defense system will be deployed at Adampur air base in 2022. Currently, it is home to some of the Indian Air Force's top fighter squadrons, including MiG-29 and Su-30 MKI.
Adampur Air Base, with its advanced radar and surveillance systems, plays a vital role in protecting the security of states like Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir and Rajasthan.
