On the morning of December 1, at the Government Headquarters, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received President of Cuba's Latin American News Agency (Prensa Latina) Jorge Legañoa Alonso, who is visiting and working in Vietnam.
Welcoming President Jorge Legañoa Alonso and the Prensa Latina delegation to visit and work in Vietnam on the occasion of the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Cuba; through President of Prensa Latina, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh sent his regards to First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, President of the Republic of Cuba Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez; Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz; President of the Cuban National Assembly Esteban Lazo Hernández and Cuban leaders.
Affirming that Vietnam will never forget Cuba's support for Vietnam's cause of national independence and the construction and protection of the Fatherland, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized that from the first bricks laid by Cuban National Hero José Martí, President Ho Chi Minh, and Cuban Leader Fidel Castro, over the past 65 years, the comradely, brotherly, and special friendship between Vietnam and Cuba has been continuously consolidated and developed extensively at all levels, channels, and fields, with three main pillars, including politics -diplomacy as the foundation, economics-trade-investment as the driving force, and people-to-people exchange as the glue.
The two sides regularly maintain high-level delegation exchanges and contacts, most recently the State visit to Cuba by General Secretary To Lam in 2024 and the official visit to Vietnam by First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, President of the Republic of Cuba Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez in September 2025, as well as the Prime Minister's meetings with Cuban leaders, opening a new stage of development in bilateral relations.
Vietnam is currently Cuba's second largest trading partner and largest investor from the Asia-Pacific region.
Projects on ensuring food security, producing rice, corn, seafood, etc. have helped the Cuban people overcome difficulties.
Most recently, shortly after launching the “65 Years of Vietnam-Cuba Friendship” Program, the Vietnamese people donated more than VND650 billion to support the Cuban people, 10 times the original target; during the COVID-19 pandemic, Cuba promptly provided vaccines to the Vietnamese people.
On the basis of the good relationship between the two countries, the relationship between VNA and Prensa Latina is also especially close, sincere, and always ready to create the best conditions for each other to fulfill their tasks.
Prensa Latina has helped VNA train many generations of Spanish-language reporters and editors, many of whom have become VNA leaders; sent experts to work at VNA; actively reported on the Vietnam-Cuba relationship; promoted the country and people of Vietnam; and reported in support of Vietnam's viewpoints and stances.
In return, VNA has supported Prensa Latina within its capacity in terms of technical equipment for its operations; and provided maximum support in all aspects to Prensa Latina reporters stationed in Hanoi.
Sharing and expressing sympathy for Cuba's difficulties and informing about the situation and strategic development orientation of Vietnam, the Prime Minister affirmed that Vietnam always stands side by side with Cuba, shares development experience, and is ready to support Cuba in ensuring food, energy, and telecommunications security.

Analyzing the world situation, each country's revolutionary tasks and challenges as well as the development trends of world media, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh suggested that VNA and Prensa Latina continue to cooperate more closely, maintain effective cooperation activities; at the same time, find new cooperation methods, support the improvement of professional expertise, technology, and media infrastructure in line with the trends of the times.
The two agencies need to provide accurate, official, and timely information to the domestic and foreign press system; actively promote the special friendship between Vietnam and Cuba, which is extremely loyal, pure, and rare in international relations; have a coordination mechanism in information to protect the ideological foundation; detect and handle false information and toxic information that affects the relationship between the two countries; share experiences and coordinate in key information channels.
Affirming that the Government always supports and will create favorable conditions for VNA in implementing cooperation programs and plans with Prensa Latina, the Prime Minister believes that with the close relationship over many generations, VNA and Prensa Latina journalists will continue to effectively implement cooperation contents in the coming time; contributing to strongly promoting the traditional friendship and special solidarity between Vietnam and Cuba.
President of Prensa Latina, Jorge Legañoa Alonso, respectfully thanked the Prime Minister for taking the time to receive the delegation and deeply sympathized with the loss that the Vietnamese people had to endure due to the recent storms and floods.
President Jorge Legañoa Alonso expressed pride in the good relationship between the two countries, including the relationship between the two national news agencies, as President Fidel Castro once said, "For Vietnam, Cuba is willing to give its blood!" and vice versa, for Cuba, Vietnam is also willing to give and share, as the recent donation to support Cuba by the Vietnamese people is a testament.
Reviewing the cooperation process between Prensa Latina and VNA, President Jorge Legañoa Alonso affirmed that Prensa Latina will closely coordinate with VNA to more effectively implement cooperation areas as Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh had commented.

VNA General Director holds talks with President of Prensa Latina News Agency
On the same morning, at the National News Center (5 Ly Thuong Kiet, Hanoi), the delegation of Vietnam News Agency (VNA) led by General Director Vu Viet Trang and the delegation of Prensa Latina led by President Jorge Legañoa Alonso held talks.
VNA General Director Vu Viet Trang expressed his pleasure to welcome the Prensa Latina delegation to visit and work in Hanoi; congratulated Mr. Jorge Legañoa Alonso on being appointed as President of Prensa Latina last October, and believed that with his rich working experience in many positions, he will continue to lead Prensa Latina to develop, and together with VNA, strengthen the traditional and long-standing cooperative relationship.
The VNA General Director reviewed the results of bilateral cooperation. Based on the current Cooperation Agreement signed on April 18, 2023 in Havana, many activities have been effectively implemented by both sides. VNA and Prensa Latina provide each other with news in English, French, and Spanish, photos with English captions, and videos in Spanish.
VNA effectively exploits the information sources provided by Prensa Latina. This is an official source of information with important reference value, helping VNA promptly update the situation in the Latin American region.
Prensa Latina published content expressing positive views, supporting Vietnam's stance in protecting territorial sovereignty; emphasizing Vietnam's efforts in ensuring human rights.
Prensa Latina sent Spanish proofreading experts to support VNA in improving the quality of its Spanish-language information products.
Prensa Latina reporters actively participate in journalism awards in Vietnam, including the National Foreign Journalism Award and the Vietnam News Agency Journalism Award.
VNA's resident reporters in Havana received attention and assistance from Prensa Latina colleagues in providing information and interviewing Cuban experts and scholars on Vietnam-Cuba relations on the occasion of important events in each country.
VNA regularly supports Prensa Latina colleagues to overcome difficulties in life and working means.
In September 2025, responding to the program "65 Vietnam-Cuba Friendship" launched by the Vietnam Red Cross Society, the staff and employees of VNA donated to support the Cuban people, including a part of the funding to directly support Prensa Latina.
VNA General Director Vu Viet Trang proposed cooperation contents in the coming period.
The two airlines will increase information exchange, especially information on important events of each country in 2026 such as: the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam; the implementation of strategic resolutions; elections of the National Assembly and People's Councils at all levels...
VNA organizes bold information about the Cuban Communist Party Congress scheduled to take place in April 2026 and Cuba's economic adjustment policies to overcome current challenges.
The two agencies continue to support resident reporters; promptly coordinate and report on media incidents; handle fake news and untrue news... and share experiences in applying digital technology.
At the talks, Prensa Latina President Jorge Legañoa Alonso expressed his joy and emotion at the thoughtful and respectful reception by VNA. The delegation will make the most of their time in Vietnam to learn about the situation and promote opportunities to deepen the cooperative relationship between the two news agencies.

The important goal of this visit is not only to promote professional cooperation, but also to learn from experience in leadership and news management.
The President of Prensa Latina expressed his deep condolences to the Vietnamese people for the damage caused by the storm. The humanitarian spirit, solidarity and concern of the leaders of the two countries for the people in natural disasters are the core values of countries following the path of socialism.
He said that VNA's development experience is a valuable source of reference. One of the agency's focuses in the coming time is to improve its technological infrastructure; modernize its journalism operations, and raise its operational level to keep up with the multimedia environment that is dominating the world.
He emphasized the role of enhancing analysis in information, thereby improving the quality of content and international reputation of Prensa Latina. He expressed his wish to continue receiving support from VNA; will take advantage of the practical experience of Vietnamese experts who have worked in Cuba; propose that the two sides increase direct or online professional exchanges, and build a core group of reporters and editors who have mastered modern working methods.
Prensa Latina and VNA have many similarities in their approach to information, including efforts to refute false allegations and guide public opinion to the truth.
The strong development of social networks and digital platforms requires the press of the two countries to proactively adapt and respond effectively...
At the end of the talks, the two sides basically agreed on cooperation agreements, affirming that the relationship between VNA and Prensa Latina vividly demonstrates the Vietnam-Cuba solidarity, which was painstakingly cultivated by President Ho Chi Minh and Leader Fidel Castro.
Generations of reporters, editors and technicians of the two agencies always work side by side, cooperate and support each other in all activities./.
