In the final round of the group stage of the 19th ASIAD women's football, the Vietnamese women's team faced Japan in a situation where they had to limit their losses to win a spot in the group of 3 third-place teams with the best results.
After the opening whistle, the game was always under the control of the Japanese women's team with many coordinated situations and small passes in the middle. Meanwhile, the opportunities for the Vietnamese women's team to reach the opponent's goal could be counted on the fingers of one hand.
The most dangerous situation came from the 16th minute, Thai Thi Thao moved to the center from the middle after Thanh Nha's pass and fired a powerful long-range shot that forced the Japanese goalkeeper to fly, pushing the ball over the crossbar. On the contrary, the Japanese women's team continuously created dangerous situations for Kim Thanh's goal with 2 goals scored in the first half.
Vietnam conceded two consecutive goals to Japan in the first half.
From a situation of developing the ball from home field, Shinomi Koyama had a smart pass that tore through Vietnam's defense, captain Yuzuho Shiokoshi opened the scoring in the 19th minute.
In the 24th minute, Shinomi Koyama continued to contribute when he passed the ball past the defense, Yoshino Nakashima accelerated to receive the ball and crossed for the Japanese captain to complete his double.
Conceding two consecutive goals, coach Mai Duc Chung quickly made adjustments by withdrawing Thu Thao and Thu Thuong in the 29th minute. Van Su and Hai Linh were sent on to replace them.
The presence of Van Su helped Thanh Nha return to the left wing position instead of the right wing in the first few minutes. After that, the Vietnamese women's team could not cause any danger.
Japan won 7-0 overall against Vietnam
Returning after the break, the Vietnamese women's team quickly conceded a goal with a powerful header by Remina Chiba from a corner kick in the 51st minute.
Four minutes later, Reina Wakisaka increased the score to 4-0 from the 11m mark after Hai Linh's handball in the penalty area.
In the 69th minute, Vietnam's defense continued to show problems when Japan made another pass to eliminate Vietnam's defense, Haruka Osawa chipped the ball over Kim Thanh's head when facing her. Before the end of the match, Haruka completed her double and helped Japan win 7-0 against Vietnam.
In the match at the same time, Bangladesh and Nepal drew 1-1. Thus, Japan won the right to continue with the top position in Group D with a goal difference of +23. Vietnam still holds the second position in the group with a goal difference of -5 in the group of 3 second-placed teams with the best results when deducting the points and goal difference of the last-placed team, Bangladesh.
Accordingly, coach Mai Duc Chung and his team still have hope of moving on, but it is very fragile as they have to wait for the results of the final matches of groups A and D at 7:30 p.m.
