Promoting Vietnam - Turkey security and defense industry cooperation

On behalf of the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security, Minister Luong Tam Quang welcomed the Chairman and the delegation of the Turkish Defense Industry Agency to visit and work in Vietnam; wished the visit a great success, contributing to strengthening the friendship and multifaceted cooperation between Vietnam and Türkiye.

Minister Luong Tam Quang highly appreciated the positive developments in bilateral relations in recent times, especially since the official visit of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh to Turkey in November 2023; affirmed that Vietnam is ready to play the role of a gateway for Turkey to access the ASEAN market; at the same time, he hoped that Turkey would become a bridge to help Vietnamese goods penetrate deeper into the Middle East, Europe and Africa markets.

In the field of security and order, the cooperation between the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam and the Turkish authorities has been continuously expanded and achieved many positive results in recent times. The two sides have promoted delegation exchanges, information sharing, coordination in crime prevention, participation in conferences and seminars and training cooperation. Notably, the Turkish Ministry of Interior has supported the training of the first 7 officers of the Vietnam People's Public Security force to participate in the United Nations peacekeeping missions; of which, 6 officers are currently on duty in South Sudan.

The two sides also strengthened coordination within the framework of the "Agreement on cooperation in combating international terrorism, organized crime, illegal trafficking of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances, precursors and other crimes" signed in 2007. In 2023, the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security sent a delegation to support Turkey in overcoming the consequences of the earthquake, demonstrating the spirit of solidarity and profound international cooperation.

Minister Luong Tam Quang highly appreciated Turkey's capacity to develop and master technology in the field of security and defense industry; affirmed that the Government and the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam always support international cooperation activities in this field on the basis of equality, mutual benefit, respect for Vietnamese law and international commitments. Minister Luong Tam Quang emphasized that the security industry is an area where the two sides still have much room for cooperation, which can become a pillar in bilateral relations in the coming time.

To promote more substantive cooperation, Minister Luong Tam Quang hopes that the President will continue to pay attention and support so that the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security can have the opportunity to contact and cooperate with leading Turkish enterprises in the field of security and defense industry; promote technology transfer, support tools and technical means to serve the work of ensuring national security, ensuring social order and safety.

At the meeting, the two sides agreed to increase delegation exchanges at all levels, share experiences, and explore cooperation opportunities in areas of common strength; at the same time, research and promote negotiations and signing of a "Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the field of security industry" to create a solid legal basis for future cooperation activities.
