At the conference, the Department of Planning and Investment provided an overview of the socio-economic development situation in the first 5 months of the year, tasks for the last months of the year and announced the Provincial Competitiveness Index (PCI) in 2023. Accordingly, GRDP in the first quarter of 2024 reached more than 3,000 billion VND, an increase of more than 6% over the same period last year, ranking 4th out of 14 provinces in the Northern midland and mountainous region, and 25th out of 63 provinces and cities nationwide. Many key public investment projects and investment projects of enterprises have been actively implemented. Since the beginning of the year, the province has decided to approve the investment policy for 6 projects with a total registered investment capital of over 1,400 billion VND. According to the PCI 2023 index results announced by the Vietnam Federation of Commerce and Industry on May 9, 2024, Dien Bien province achieved 66.77 points (an increase of 6.92 points, 31 places compared to 2022), approaching the top 30 of the national rankings, the highest ranking of the province ever.

Speaking at the conference, Provincial Party Secretary Tran Quoc Cuong acknowledged the efforts and important contributions of the business community and entrepreneurs inside and outside the province to the province's socio-economic development in recent times. At the same time, he commended all levels and sectors for their efforts in coordinating, grasping, removing difficulties, and supporting businesses in their operations. In order to maintain and promote the PCI results achieved in the past year, improve the PCI index in 2024 and the following years, the Provincial Party Secretary hopes for more efforts, determination, and drastic direction from leaders at all levels and sectors; it is necessary to demonstrate responsibility through specific and clear commitments, attaching the roles and responsibilities of heads of units and localities.
