On June 16, at the Vietnam National Mine Action Center (VNMAC), a working delegation from the Ministry of National Defense led by Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien, member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Minister of National Defense , Head of the Standing Office of the National Steering Committee for Overcoming the Consequences of Post-War Bombs, Mines and Toxic Chemicals in Vietnam (Steering Committee 701), worked with VNMAC and the MIA Agency of the Ministry of National Defense on the work of overcoming the consequences of post-war bombs and mines and the results of the search for US soldiers missing in action (MIA).
At the meeting, delegates listened to the leaders of VNMAC and the MIA Agency of the Ministry of National Defense give an overview of the work of overcoming the consequences of post-war bombs and mines and the results of MIA activities in Vietnam in recent years; at the same time, they made a number of recommendations, proposals and directions to improve the effectiveness of these activities in the coming time.

After listening to the comments of the delegates in the Working Group and representatives of relevant agencies and units, Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien acknowledged and commended the proactiveness and overcoming of difficulties of VNMAC and the MIA Agency of the Ministry of National Defense in carrying out the extremely noble, deeply humane and humane task.
Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien assessed that in recent years, VNMAC has done a good job of clearing mines and explosives left over from the war, handing over land so that people have safe places to live, developing the economy and society, while minimizing casualties and losses caused by mines and bombs. With MIA activities, to date, Vietnam and the United States have conducted 150 searches, contributing to the repatriation of hundreds of remains of US soldiers missing in action during the war, and MIA activities have become a symbol of the cooperative relationship between the two countries.

Regarding the direction of activities in the coming time, Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien said that it is necessary to continue to thoroughly grasp and perceive the work of overcoming the consequences of post-war bombs and mines and MIA activities as a humanitarian issue, both urgent and long-term. Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien requested VNMAC and the MIA Agency of the Ministry of National Defense to speed up the implementation of professional work and build a long-term operational strategy; build and complete related legal documents; continue to promote specialized training and research and development.

In addition, Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien emphasized that it is necessary to continue promoting propaganda and disseminating knowledge about the risk of accidents caused by bombs, mines, and explosives left over from the war to minimize accidents, as well as promoting the results of activities of the Vietnam People's Army and specialized forces in overcoming the consequences of war; strengthening and expanding international cooperation in overcoming the consequences of bombs, mines, and MIA activities; and effectively promoting the signed documents with international partners in this field.
