The event took place in response to World Oceans Day (June 8) and the campaign "Acting together for the blue sea", gathering more than 150 representatives of businesses, scientists , management agencies and fishermen.
Technological innovation - The key to transformation
The workshop “Sustainable development of the fisheries sector” was attended by representatives of the Department of Fisheries, Fisheries Surveillance, Khanh Hoa Department of Agriculture and Environment, organizations operating in the field of fisheries, research institutes, universities, leading enterprises and local fishermen.
This is one of the rare multilateral forums that focuses on substantive discussions on fisheries development strategies - a sector that is under great pressure from climate change, biodiversity loss and the need to integrate sustainable export standards.

Dr. Le Thai Ha delivered the opening speech at the event, affirming the importance of connecting stakeholders to promote sustainable development in the fisheries industry.
In his opening remarks, Dr. Le Thai Ha, Executive Director of the Green Future Fund, emphasized: “Aquaculture is not only a key economic sector but also a measure of the health of the marine ecosystem. The challenge today is not only growth but also the harmonious development of the economy, environment and social security. Green transformation requires co-creation - where knowledge, innovation and resources converge.”
The event was held in the context of Decision 911 on controlling aquatic environmental pollution officially coming into effect. The dual goal is to both enhance the competitiveness of Vietnamese aquatic products, reduce emissions and protect the sea.
With the advantage of nearly 500km of coastline after merging with Ninh Thuan, Khanh Hoa is the locality that "holds the key" to green transformation in the seafood industry.

Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Chu Hoi, Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam Fisheries Association (VINAFIS), and experts discussed in depth innovative solutions to build a green supply chain for the industry.
According to data from the Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee, seafood export turnover in 2024 reached 729 million USD, accounting for more than 41% of the province's total exports. However, over-exploitation of coastal fisheries, plastic waste, and lack of sustainable farming processes have had a significant impact on the marine environment.
Aiming to solve the problem of sustainable economic development in parallel with environmental protection, Mr. Nguyen Duy Quang, Director of Khanh Hoa Department of Agriculture and Environment, shared a high-tech offshore marine farming model using HDPE cages, using surveillance cameras and positioning systems. The solution, supported by Thien Tam Fund (Vingroup), is initially showing clear effectiveness, both reducing the risk of natural disasters, increasing output and limiting waste discharge.

Mr. Nguyen Duy Quang, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Khanh Hoa province, shared about the model of "High-tech marine farming" to increase productivity while ensuring sustainable development.
Proposing innovation in farming and processing models, Dr. Pham Anh Tuan, former Deputy Director General of the Directorate of Fisheries, member of the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Fisheries Association (VINAFIS), shared two-stage shrimp farming technology with reduced antibiotics, solar-powered pangasius farming ponds, and a circular farming model (shrimp - seaweed - fish), helping to reduce emissions and increase economic efficiency.
Meanwhile, Associate Professor Dr. Le Minh Hoang, Director of the Institute of Aquaculture - Nha Trang University emphasized the role of circular technology, circular economy and close links between the institute, businesses and localities in increasing productivity and protecting resources.
As a leading enterprise in the field of seafood processing and exporting, Minh Phu Seafood Corporation brings a perspective from practical production. Ms. Le Thi Dieu Minh - Deputy General Director of Minh Phu Seafood Corporation, said that the enterprise is applying sustainable ingredients in feed, integrating closed-loop technology, reusing by-products and reducing dependence on natural exploitation.
Supporting the above solutions, Mr. Nguyen Hoai Nam - General Secretary of VASEP proposed that the State soon complete policies to support green transformation, invest in modern farming infrastructure and promote regional linkage chains in production and consumption.

Experts have come up with practical research and practices to innovate the fisheries industry, moving towards a circular economy.
Connecting Partner - Catalyst
Sharing about the meaning of the campaign “Acting together for a blue ocean”, Dr. Le Thai Ha said: “We believe that the way forward requires co-creation, where knowledge, innovation and resources converge. The Green Future Fund is committed to not only being a connecting partner, but also a catalyst - promoting multi-dimensional dialogue, supporting the transformation of development models, and spreading responsible innovative practices”.
According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Sac - President of VASEP, sustainable development is no longer an option, but the only way to maintain the export position, ensuring the livelihoods of millions of coastal people. "The workshop is a starting point for interdisciplinary thinking, connecting many subjects to create a real transformation roadmap", affirmed the President of VASEP.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Sac, President of VASEP, emphasized the inevitable importance of sustainable development in the seafood industry.
The workshop ended with many highly applicable proposals and initiatives, opening up new approaches for the sustainable development of the Vietnamese seafood industry. The event also affirmed the role of the Green Future Fund in initiating and connecting, creating a platform for multi-dimensional dialogue between parties, thereby promoting timely transformation, drastic action, and multilateral linkages for the seafood industry to transform strongly, greener and more sustainably.
The Fund for a Green Future was established by Vingroup in July 2023 to contribute to realizing Vietnam's Net Zero goal by 2050. To date, the Fund has implemented a series of practical programs: "Green Wednesday" campaign - encouraging sustainable consumption; "Green Summer 2024" with the participation of more than 7,000 volunteer students from 30 universities; the "Green Voice" and "Send Green Future 2050" competitions attracted 23,000 students from 61 provinces and cities to participate.
As a “connecting partner - catalyst”, the Fund aims to build sustainable innovation practice models, opening up a green journey in each socio-economic field.
