The "billionaire" of kindness

QTO - Although not rich or well-off, Ms. Ho Thi Thu Sang (born in 1981) is still called a "billionaire" by everyone. That name was born after many good deeds that she silently contributed to life despite the heavy burden of difficulties on her shoulders.

Poor households do charity

Participating in a charity trip to Xi Nuc village, Lao Bao commune, the image of a woman wearing a medical belt on her back, her hands and feet working tirelessly left a deep impression on me. Asking the head of the Xi Nuc village Women's Association, Nguyen Thi Hoang Yen, I learned that the woman's name was Thu Sang. Before being hospitalized for spinal surgery, Sang was asked by a philanthropist to cook 300 meals for the poor. Therefore, as soon as she left the hospital, she immediately started to fulfill her promise, not allowing herself to rest. "Sang has come to the people of Xi Nuc village many times, when giving gifts, when cooking delicious meals... She is our joy", Yen shared.

In the “field kitchen”, Ms. Thu Sang said that she was once “in debt” to charity meals. That was when she followed her husband to the Central Highlands to do business. Despite working hard, the couple often faced the situation of “good harvest, low prices”. One time, a bout of malaria hit, Ms. Sang could barely get up. “I was hospitalized with only a little money left in my pocket. At that time, charity meals… saved me”, Ms. Sang said.

After returning from illness, Thu Sang always wanted to do something to thank life for giving her a second birth. However, it was not easy for a poor farmer like her. Finally, she decided to return home and choose Lao Bao commune to live. At that time, seeing her family's difficult situation, the local government supported part of the cost to build a charity house. That act made Sang very emotional, and she was more determined to travel back and forth by bus from Lao Bao to Dien Sanh to trade and revive the economy . Sang confided: "The word 'poor' has 5 letters, but it took me a dozen years to... spell it. When the worries about food and clothing gradually subsided, I thought it was time to thank life."

To carry out her plan, every day, Ms. Sang sets aside a small amount of money. Without much ambition, she decided to start by supporting the poor people around her. The gifts Ms. Sang gives are sometimes just a few kilos of rice, a box of instant noodles, a new shirt... Seeing the joy on the recipient's face, she feels like she has found the love of her life. From here, the program "Gifts for the Poor" was born. Every month, Ms. Sang spends her own money to buy about 20 gifts, worth 300-500 thousand VND/gift for poor households. She has maintained this good deed for the past 6 years.

Borrow money to cook rice "0 dong"

During the months of silently doing charity work, the memory of the warm bowl of rice that came to her during the most difficult times is always present in Thu Sang's mind. That is the motivation that urged her to cook vegetarian rice to give to the poor. After the trial period, in early 2022, Sang opened a "0 VND" rice shop in Dien Sanh commune. Every month, she maintains 4 days of free rice service.

For a busy businesswoman who often travels back and forth between two rural areas, opening and maintaining a charity restaurant is not easy. On schedule, Ms. Sang has to get up early in the morning, go to the market to choose the freshest food. To have more than 100 vegetarian meals, she works hard. Taking advantage of the time, she also chats and asks special guests to adjust the cooking and serving methods. Therefore, everyone who comes to the restaurant returns with joy.

Although she struggled to serve more than 100 customers each time she opened her shop, Ms. Sang still could not rest assured. Because she knew that there were still many disabled, lonely, elderly people in the area who could not come to her. From then on, the desire to bring charity meals to the addresses in need arose in Ms. Sang's heart. That was the reason that urged her to increase the number of meals, then arrange her time and work to bring them to the homes of some cases. "On sunny days it is still bearable, but every time there is a storm, the road becomes longer. Thinking that people are waiting for me, I have more motivation," Ms. Sang said.

Since opening her “0 dong” meal shop, Ms. Thu Sang has become more known to many people. Some poor patients often text and contact her to share their difficulties. That is also the reason why Ms. Sang is motivated to bring “0 dong” meals to hospitals and medical centers.

Take care of the coffin for a stranger

During the months of tirelessly doing charity work, Thu Sang’s heart ached many times when she learned that some families could not even afford a coffin for their deceased loved ones. Their cries contained both sadness and helplessness… As a woman, Sang understood that. Therefore, she decided to take care of coffins for those in especially difficult circumstances.

Therefore, every time she heard that someone needed a coffin, she put everything aside to go there to find out. When she returned, Sang wrote an article, posted it on social media, and mobilized everyone's help. Overcoming her hesitation, she called all her comrades and philanthropists to seek help. Only when she raised enough money did she feel at ease. Up to now, Sang has helped nearly 20 cases with funds to buy coffins. After providing emergency support, she also returned to help the families.

Seeing Ms. Thu Sang diligently doing charity work while life is still difficult, many people find it strange, even saying things. That sometimes makes Ms. Sang upset. However, she understands that she cannot wait until she becomes a billionaire to do charity work. Because, every day, her kind heart still urges her. Thanks to it, she has become a very special billionaire - a "billionaire" of kindness.
