Since the beginning of 2024, the locality has organized two periodic health check-ups for the elderly. Accordingly, thousands of elderly people have been examined by medical staff and doctors; typically, Bau Lam commune has reached 67% of elderly people coming for health check-ups. It is estimated that the two health check-ups reached 65% of the total number of elderly people in the district. During the health check-ups, the elderly are examined by doctors, have ultrasound, electrocardiogram, eyes, etc. to detect early diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, eye diseases and are advised to have regular health check-ups.

At the same time, during the examination, doctors focus on advising the elderly on knowledge about health care, a reasonable diet, adequate nutrition, knowledge about physical exercise to improve health and prevent diseases, and give instructions and advice on periodic health check-ups at least once a year. After the examination, 100% of the elderly are given free medicines such as: Vitamins, eye tonics, liver tonics, pain relievers for bones and joints, brain tonics, etc.

Many elderly people registered for regular health check-ups and were satisfied with the attitude and advice of doctors.

The above results were achieved thanks to the good coordination between the examination team and the Health Stations of communes and towns, along with local departments, branches and organizations, especially the synchronous unity of the Elderly Association at all levels in Xuyen Moc district.

Through the examinations, Xuyen Moc District Medical Center uses some additional paraclinical tests to coordinate screening such as: Diabetes test, general abdominal ultrasound, electrocardiogram... In addition, the Medical Center also sends a large team of doctors with full specialties according to the regulations of the Ministry of Health on health examination.

The program of medical examination, treatment and free medicine distribution for the elderly is organized and implemented according to the provisions of the Law on the Elderly and guiding documents to improve the quality of the grassroots medical network for health care, disease prevention, examination, treatment and management of chronic diseases for the elderly in the area; help the elderly have the opportunity to access medical services, save time, save money, and do not need to travel far; at the same time, respond to the Action Month for the Elderly in Vietnam in 2024.

Ms. Nguyen Thu Ha, Head of the Representative Board of the Elderly Association of Xuyen Moc district, said: In order to achieve better results in medical examination and treatment for the elderly by 2025, we will continue to coordinate with the Medical Center to organize examination teams to go to hamlets and neighborhoods, creating favorable conditions for the elderly to come for examination.

Satisfied with medical ethics

In addition to coordinating health examination and management and medical examination and treatment for 100% of the elderly, doctors and nurses also use additional clinical tests such as blood sugar test, general abdominal ultrasound, and electrocardiogram to increase the effectiveness of the examination, detection, and management of the health of the elderly. Propaganda work continues to be widely promoted to all classes of people in general and the elderly in particular about the benefits of health examination and management for the elderly. Call for the cooperation of local departments, branches, and organizations in notifying and inviting the elderly to the examination location.

Elderly health is an issue that needs attention and care. Old age will lead to a decline in resistance as well as recovery ability. In order to have a good care regimen as well as control diseases, regular health check-ups for the elderly are very important and necessary, helping to detect and control diseases of old age in time; accurately assess and advise on appropriate nutrition; help the elderly recognize their health status, thereby making them more aware of exercising, improving their diet and treating diseases; through the results of health check-ups, children and grandchildren can find the best solution to take care of the elderly's health.

Medical examination and treatment for the elderly is a practical activity that demonstrates the concern and increasingly better care for the health of the elderly in the area, contributing to improving the health of the elderly, especially the elderly who are lonely, disabled, and in difficult circumstances. At the same time, it raises public awareness of the role, responsibility, and importance of health care for the elderly, helping this force to live happily, healthily, and usefully.
