Taking us to visit the frog and fish farming model in a cage, Mr. Duong Van Veo in Hamlet 6, Ward 7, Soc Trang City (Soc Trang) excitedly told us about the process of overcoming difficulties to escape poverty and "making a living" in the past 4 years. Mr. Veo said that in 2022, he started a business with a frog and catfish farming model in a cage. With a small initial capital, Mr. Veo bought bamboo and nets to make 3 small cages placed on the river and then bought frog and catfish fry to practice raising. From self-taught knowledge on the internet combined with reality, Mr. Veo's fish and frog farming model was effective. By 2023, with the Farmers' Association of Ward 7 creating conditions to access capital from the Farmers' Support Fund, Mr. Veo decided to borrow 45 million VND to expand the farming area, and at the same time he purchased commercial frogs to supply to key customers.

“I currently have 7 cages, each cage is 8m2 wide. Every two and a half months, I sell a batch of frogs and every 3 months, I sell a batch of fish. The frogs I raise weigh 4, over 1kg, and each fish weighs 1kg, so they sell very well. When I have a fair amount of capital, I go to buy more frogs and commercial catfish in neighboring districts such as Long Phu, My Tu and Nga Nam town. Every 2 days, I buy about 600kg of frogs and 100kg of fish and deliver them to the dealers. In recent years, thanks to the successful economic change, my family's life has been much better than before. At the beginning of this year, I bought a truck to facilitate the purchase and transportation of goods to customers,” Mr. Veo happily shared.
