Handling more than 1,460 cases of smuggling and trade fraud in the first 6 months of the year

According to the Steering Committee 389 of Quang Ninh province, in the first 6 months of 2025, functional forces in the province have drastically implemented many solutions, synchronously from the border to the interior to prevent and repel smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods.

Mong Cai City authorities seized a warehouse of more than 26 tons of food of unknown origin in village 5, Quang Nghia commune (Mong Cai) on May 27.

Since the beginning of the year, the province has detected, arrested, and handled 1,464 violations, with an estimated value of infringing goods of over 33 billion VND, an increase of 7.7% in the number of cases and an increase of 81.2% in value compared to the same period in 2024.

Notably, the number of criminal cases increased sharply with 35 cases and 60 subjects prosecuted, up 46% and 62.2% respectively over the same period; 1,423 administrative violations were handled, including 1,105 cases of smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods with a total fine and confiscated goods sale amounting to 13.7 billion VND.

In the domestic tax sector alone, 318 cases were penalized with fines and arrears totaling 78.7 billion VND.

Hoanh Mo Border Guard Station ( Quang Ninh Border Guard) arrested a subject illegally transporting food of unknown origin in the border area.

In particular, during the peak month of the fight against smuggling, trade fraud, and counterfeit goods under the direction of the Prime Minister , the whole province recorded 380 violations, an increase of 31% in the number of cases and 175% in value compared to the same period in 2024. Of which, there were 6 criminal cases with 14 subjects, 371 administrative penalties. The violations were mainly related to smuggling, counterfeit goods, poor quality goods, goods infringing intellectual property rights and tax evasion. The amount of fines and arrears in the peak month amounted to more than 26 billion VND.

Particularly, the Customs Sub-Department of Region VIII - Standing Agency of the Provincial Steering Committee 389, from the beginning of the year to June 16, has arrested 211 cases, with goods worth more than 9.1 billion VND, of which it presided over the arrest of 153 cases, worth more than 5 billion VND; coordinated the arrest of 58 cases, worth more than 4 billion VND. Particularly in the peak month of fighting against smuggling, trade fraud, and counterfeit goods, the unit arrested 95 cases, with goods worth more than 5.6 billion VND.
