When young people get bored with "fast" and like "slow"
“Jumping” to the Top 1 of the national TV viewership rankings in the prime time slot of 8pm on VTV3, the reality TV show “Haha Family - The days of the vast sky” has made an impression in building an entertainment and travel program in the form of “slow TV”.
Also a reality TV show, however, the program "Haha Family - The days of vast sky" is built in the spirit of no script, no sensationalism, instead there are images of fields, kitchen fires, morning dew on the roofs of Vietnamese countryside houses, connected over time.
Artists Jun Pham, Rhymastic, Bui Cong Nam, Ngoc Thanh Tam and Duy Khanh are familiar faces appearing and making their own mark in reality shows such as The movie "The Brother Overcame a Thousand Difficulties" and "The Beautiful Sister Riding the Wind and Breaking the Waves" are very popular among young people today.
The artists travel together in a daily format, exploring many lands across Vietnam – from Lao Cai, Quang Ngai to mountainous and coastal areas, plowing fields, raising livestock, fishing, preparing food… to take care of life for seven days and six nights.
This is a genre of television where the content is usually not dramatic, not constantly edited, not forced by the rhythm of time, and not overused with dramatic effects. Everything happens slowly, naturally and is highly observant. The audience is not "led" but the viewer's personal emotions will decide everything.
WHERE DID "SLOW TV" BEGIN?
Originating from the journey of the Bergensbanen train that lasted...7 hours and 30 minutes, it was broadcast on NRK in Norway. The program had no commentary, only the natural scenery passing through the window, which seemed difficult to attract viewers, but more than 1 million Norwegians watched it, occupying about 1/5 of the population Bergensbanen became a pioneering symbol of the "slow TV" wave, programs that captured real-time flow, connecting with viewers.
The beauty of the country - the depth of youth - idol culture: The synthesis of intrinsic values
The familiar script, natural daily stories of artists and local people, laughter and humane messages about family affection have helped "Haha Family - The Vast Sky Days" quickly win the hearts of a large audience.
The fact that the program maintained a stable viewership when aired on VTV3, throughout the 90 minutes of “no script”, achieving top ratings is a surprising factor, showing that the audience has not lost their “patience” but is willing to sit and enjoy, instead of “surfing channels” like before. Young people, despite living in the midst of the fast-paced news and instant entertainment, are also showing a need to return to content with depth, emotion and lasting meaning.
In the context of Vietnam's efforts to develop the cultural industry, promote domestic tourism and develop Vietnamese idol culture, the positive reception from the audience for meaningful content that has a community impact is an encouraging signal.
In fact, before Haha Family, the series of shows Anh trai vu ngan cong gai had created a significant effect among Vietnamese youth. Not only because of the participation of beloved young artists, but also because of the way they appeared as themselves, renewing old values to become extremely attractive.
