The tournament brought together approximately 700 athletes from 30 teams and clubs from provinces and cities with strong and developed chess movements across the country, such as Quang Binh , Khanh Hoa, Binh Thuan, Gia Lai, etc. Participating in the tournament from August 1-5, athletes in age groups from 7 to 16 and 18 competed in two categories: basic and team, vying in three events: Rapid Chess, Blitz Chess, and Super Blitz Chess.
At the opening ceremony, Mr. Bui Trung Hieu, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Gia Lai province and Head of the Organizing Committee, affirmed: The tournament is organized to expand and promote the movement of practicing and competing in intellectual sports in general and chess in particular throughout society; it is a beneficial activity to give young people and children the opportunity to participate in competitions, accumulate experience and skills in playing chess, access a professional competition environment, and contribute to improving physical fitness, developing intelligence, and building a healthy cultural life for Vietnamese youth.
Immediately after the opening ceremony, athletes from various age groups began competing in the tournament's events.
