These days, at the seaports of Tinh Ky, Tinh Hoa (Quang Ngai City), Sa Huynh (Duc Pho Town), the scene of buying and selling fish and transporting fuel and raw materials onto ships to continue going offshore is bustling. After selling the fish, fisherman Le Tuan Tin (30 years old) in Nghia An Commune (Quang Ngai City) hurried to the provincial Department of Fisheries to enter his seafood exploitation log to complete the procedures for fuel support according to Decision 48 of the Prime Minister . Fisherman Tin shared that his ship often fishes in the Hoang Sa sea area. Since Tet, his ship has gone out to sea twice. Thanks to the calm weather and calm seas, the ship returned with a full hold after two fishing trips. However, with the current high prices of raw materials and fuel, his ship does not make much profit. Mr. Tin calculated that in the last two trips, the ship earned nearly 800 million VND, but with a 400CV ship going out to sea for an average of 18-20 days/trip, a trip at sea also costs about 200-250 million VND in raw materials and fuel, of which oil accounts for more than 125 million VND. Thanks to the fuel support policy under Decision 48, his ship is confident in staying at sea.

After a 25-day fishing trip in the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa fishing grounds, his face still darkened by the sun and wind, the owner of the QNg 96786TS boat, Nguyen Thanh Binh, from Dong An Vinh village (Ly Son), is busy completing procedures to receive fuel support to continue going to sea. Fisherman Binh said that after each fishing trip, he goes to the authorities to enter the fishing logbook, not to combine trips. Because each fishing trip has a different fishing itinerary. Although Binh's boat is equipped with a journey monitoring device, when going to sea, he still has to send full messages about the ship's coordinates to the authorities through the centralized management and operation center system to monitor the boat. Binh said that the boat has a large capacity, in order to fish effectively, in addition to fishing experience, the fishing boat owner must continuously purchase modern equipment for exploitation and ensure communication with the supervising authorities. This is the basis for completing procedures to receive fuel support.

According to fisherman Binh, since the beginning of the year, his boat has fished in the Hoang Sa sea area twice, earning more than 1.2 billion VND. However, “big boat, big waves”, one trip costs him 350 - 400 million VND. The remaining amount, he divided among 14 fellow fishermen and repaired the boat, so there is not much left. Therefore, the State’s fuel support policy is a condition for his boat to continue going out to sea.

For fisherman Nguyen Tan Nhut in Sa Huynh, Pho Thanh Ward (Duc Pho Town), the fuel support policy has helped him maintain his fishing career and not violate the sovereignty of exploitation in neighboring countries. For many years, his boats have not violated the Law on Seafood Exploitation.

Head of the provincial Fisheries Department Nguyen Van Muoi said that the support policy under Decision 48 of the Prime Minister to help fishermen stay at sea is very practical. The Department organizes the reception of support requests and synthesizes advice for the provincial Appraisal Council to review and submit to the provincial People's Committee to decide to support fishermen.

The province currently has about 4,240 fishing boats operating across the country's waters. With the rising prices of raw materials and fuel and the increasingly scarce fishing grounds, the fuel support policy under Decision 48 of the Prime Minister has greatly contributed to helping fishermen feel secure at sea, contributing to protecting the sacred sovereignty of the Fatherland's seas and islands.
