Today, Mr. Tran Quoc Thang, a resident of Lao Cai ward, and his son visited the Red River Cultural Space exhibition area - the opening activity for the Red River Festival Week - Lao Cai 2025. Here, precious documentary images of Lao Cai in the past evoked in him memories that seemed to have faded over the years.

More than 60 years ago, Mr. Tran Quoc Thang was an enthusiastic reporter for Lao Cai Doi Moi Newspaper, the predecessor of the current Lao Cai Newspaper and Radio - Television.
The years when Mr. Thang took his camera and film camera to all the localities in the province were also when Lao Cai province was facing many difficulties. Even when Lao Cai province was re-established in 1991, the difficulties were still numerous.
The scenes of old Lao Cai were recreated from photos displayed at the Red River Cultural Space, leaving him with many emotions.
Not only Mr. Thang, many Lao Cai people as well as tourists from other places visiting the Red River cultural space were moved when seeing the development of Lao Cai province through historical stages, especially the image of Lao Cai from the beginning of the 20th century.

Precious photos of the confluence of the Red River and Nam Thi River in 1897, Ho Kieu Bridge in 1906, cargo boats entering Lao Kay in 1911, Lao Cai International Border Gate area, Coc Leu market in the early 20th century... show that Lao Cai was an important trading gateway more than a century ago.

In addition, the collection of photos of Sa Pa and Bac Ha in the 1920s and 1930s helps today's generation visualize the history of these lands more than 100 years ago and the life and cultural identity of the people in the Lao Cai highlands at that time.
For example, the area of Sa Pa stone church and Bac Ha temple has changed after more than a century. Especially for young people, old photos of Lao Cai are a valuable treasure, helping them gain more understanding of local history and culture, fostering pride and love for their homeland.
The Red River Cultural Space exhibition area at Dinh Le Square, Lao Cai Ward is designed as an open space, with more than 300 photos of Lao Cai and the provinces in the Red River basin from the beginning of the 20th century to the present.
These are not only valuable documents but also have the meaning of educating the younger generation about historical values, multiplying pride and awareness of respect for the contributions of previous generations on the journey of building and protecting the homeland at the border of the Fatherland.

The exhibition of images of Lao Cai past and present will last until November 24, 2025, at Dinh Le Square, Lao Cai Ward.
