VHO - In the space of Thang Long Imperial Citadel, the first World Cultural Festival in Hanoi took place like a colorful symphony. During three days, from October 10-12, the cultural quintessence of five continents converged, bringing about multi-colored, multi-voiced experiences, where art, music, and culture of many countries harmonized in the rhythm of peace and friendship.

Previously, the opening ceremony of the first World Cultural Festival in Hanoi took place on the evening of October 10. Attending the opening ceremony were Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh; Mrs. Ngo Phuong Ly, wife of General Secretary To Lam; Member of the Party Central Committee, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung; Alternate Member of the Party Central Committee, Permanent Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Le Hai Binh. Also attending were leaders of Central Committees, Ministries, branches and Hanoi City; representatives of diplomatic delegations and international organizations in Vietnam. At the opening ceremony, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed that culture is the “red thread” connecting people to people, connecting countries, connecting the world ; culture has no borders. Assessing the first World Cultural Festival in Hanoi as an event connecting the Vietnamese people with peoples around the world, the Prime Minister said that although “all beginnings are difficult”, all relevant parties have made every effort to organize the festival. From there, it brings joy and cultural enjoyment of peoples around the world to Vietnam and of Vietnam to peoples and countries around the world.

The festival takes place with the desire to strengthen friendship between nations and cultures for peace.

The Prime Minister said that Vietnam is currently experiencing many natural disasters, "storm after storm, flood after flood". In the third quarter alone, Vietnam had to endure 8 storms, 4 in September alone. A part of the population is struggling with the difficulties caused by natural disasters. On this occasion, the Prime Minister sent his deepest condolences to the localities and families that suffered losses and damage to people and property; at the same time, he called for contributions, cooperation and sharing from people across the country and international friends for those who are being severely affected by natural disasters.

The Prime Minister continued to emphasize that President Ho Chi Minh, the great national hero and world cultural celebrity, pointed out that “culture must light the way for the nation”. The Party has identified culture as an endogenous strength, a culture that is scientific, national and popular. Currently, Vietnam is continuing to concretize this cultural line of the Communist Party of Vietnam so that culture is truly an endogenous strength, connecting people to people, connecting economies; promoting the development of cultural industry, entertainment industry, contributing to the internationalization of Vietnam's culture with strong national identity to international friends and the nationalization of the world's civilization into Vietnam. On this occasion, the Prime Minister highly appreciated the program with the spirit of expressing the strong Vietnamese cultural identity, including the culture of sharing, the culture of helping each other with national love and compatriotism; contribute to sharing and sending feelings in many different forms to our compatriots who are suffering the consequences of climate change, including the current storms and floods. The Prime Minister hopes that ministries, branches, localities and especially countries and international partners will continue to respond so that the World Cultural Festival can be organized annually in Vietnam.

VHO - On the evening of October 9, the rehearsal of the opening ceremony of the first World Cultural Festival in Hanoi took place at the Thang Long Imperial Citadel Center (Thang Long Heritage Conservation Center, Hanoi).

The Prime Minister stated: “We will continue to promote the role of culture as an endogenous strength, as well as a strength of international solidarity and connection, sharing together in the face of natural disasters and the consequences of climate change, which are of a national, comprehensive and global nature; requiring international solidarity, upholding multilateralism and mutual assistance, including cultural ties.”

According to UNESCO Representative in Vietnam Jonathan Wallace Baker, in difficult times caused by natural disasters and floods, culture reminds people of their roots. It is the source of resilience, compassion and the ability to rebuild lives together.

Within the framework of the Festival, a charity auction took place, raising 2.5 billion VND to support people affected by recent storms and floods.

Mr. Jonathan Wallace Baker affirmed that with the theme “Joining hands with people in flood areas”, the festival shows that culture not only honors beauty and creativity, but also inspires compassion, recovery and solidarity. This festival makes its mark not only by the colors and performances, but also by the message that when culture connects, humanity will unite. The festival brings together artists, communities and countries to share traditional values ​​and creative innovation, to listen to each other and affirm that cultural differences do not divide people but are the factors that connect countries together.

Sharing about this festival, Director of the Department of International Cooperation (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) Nguyen Phuong Hoa emphasized that the event has successfully honored the diverse beauty of cultures around the world through many rich forms of expression such as performing arts, fashion shows, cinema, exhibitions... The festival not only brings a colorful picture of global culture but also conveys the message of a dynamic, open Hanoi, a place of harmony and convergence of human civilizations. "With the spirit of Connecting - Sharing - Spreading love, culture for peace, the festival has received active support from nearly 50 embassies, international organizations and foreign cultural centers in Vietnam. In particular, the program "Heritage Footsteps" within the framework of the festival has raised a fund of 2 billion 500 million VND through charity auctions. The entire amount will support people affected by the recent floods," said Ms. Phuong Hoa. Ms. Phuong Hoa added that the event not only introduces the quintessence of Vietnamese culture to the world but is also an opportunity to selectively absorb the quintessence of human culture, enrich national identity and enhance the cultural enjoyment of the people, in accordance with the consistent policy of the Party and State. In the coming time, the Festival will continue to be developed towards becoming an annual event, bearing the unique brand mark of the capital Hanoi.

Cultural and artistic promotion activities within the framework of the Festival

Ms. Peta Donald, First Secretary of the Australian Embassy in Vietnam, expressed her deep impression of the scale and message of the first World Cultural Festival in Hanoi, considering this an initiative with the meaning of connecting, demonstrating the spirit of openness and integration of Vietnam with the international community. Ms. Peta Donald assessed that the gathering of cultures from all five continents in the space of Thang Long Imperial Citadel is not only an opportunity to honor the values ​​and unique identities of each nation but also creates a bridge of exchange, enhancing understanding and solidarity between nations. According to Ms. Peta Donald, it is the diversity, harmony and sharing through music and art that has created a special vitality for the festival, thereby contributing to fostering friendship, strengthening cooperation and promoting the spirit of respect and understanding between cultures in today's modern, interconnected world.

After three exciting days, the first World Cultural Festival in Hanoi ended in a joyful atmosphere, leaving many beautiful impressions in the hearts of the public and international friends. Tens of thousands of people and tourists immersed themselves in the colorful space of five continents' cultures, where music, art, cuisine, costumes and customs of countries converged, spreading the spirit of solidarity, friendship and mutual respect.
