Singer Phan Dinh Tung shared with VietNamNet reporters that he had an accident while swimming. Specifically, he inserted the waterproof earplugs too tightly and deeply, then pulled them out with great force, creating a great pressure that ruptured his eardrum.

"When I took out the earplugs, I heard a 'pop' sound accompanied by a sharp pain deep in my ear. I share the story as a lesson to the audience: when taking out earplugs to go swimming, be careful to press lightly on the edge of the ear to create a gap for air to escape, not putting pressure on the eardrum," he said.

The accident happened quite a while ago, but due to his busy schedule and the desire for his eardrum to heal naturally, Phan Dinh Tung did not have surgery right away.

As a result, since then, the eardrum has not healed on its own and has become infected, leading to otitis media. The singer said: "I took antibiotics and the inflammation was stable, but if I stopped, the pus would immediately flow again. This happened four times, and the doctor recommended surgery."

In early May, Phan Dinh Tung had surgery to patch his eardrum with ear cartilage by the head doctor of the ENT Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City. The surgery lasted 3 hours and was completed successfully.

He is currently on medication and needs to wait another 2 weeks for accurate results on the condition of his eardrum. His right ear's hearing ability is currently only 20-30%.

"I'm worried. The ears are an important tool that helps singers locate pitch, hear rhythm and adjust their voice to match the accompaniment. When one ear loses hearing, I have to work twice as hard to focus on the other ear and adjust my singing technique so as not to go off-key or out of rhythm. This is really a big challenge in my career," the singer said.

Phan Dinh Tung shared that his wife, Thai Ngoc Bich, is always his strongest spiritual support in difficult times. When attending the premiere of Rain of Fire - a documentary about the program Brother Overcoming Thousands of Difficulties 2024, she followed closely to take care of him, wiped his sweat and encouraged him in front of the crowd.
