After the collapse of Phong Chau Bridge in Phu Tho Province, Ben Thuy 1 Bridge, a road bridge spanning the Lam River connecting Nghe An and Ha Tinh Provinces, has just undergone a "health check" and safety inspection. The management agency has also hired divers to inspect the pile foundation and the current state of riverbed erosion.

Road Management Area II has just coordinated with relevant units to inspect the safety of Ben Thuy 1 Bridge over Lam River connecting Nghe An and Ha Tinh provinces. In addition, many other bridges in the area were also inspected to ensure safety during the rainy and stormy season.
Ben Thuy 1 Bridge is 630.5 m long, 12 m wide with 13 spans. The bridge has a Bulgarian steel truss structure, with the middle river pillar built on pile foundation. Over a long period of use, the bridge has been maintained many times.
Ben Thuy 1 Bridge was put into operation in 1990. Every day, the traffic volume through Ben Thuy 1 Bridge is very large.
Following the direction of the Vietnam Road Administration, Road Management Area 2 has organized periodic inspections before and after each rainy and stormy season every year. From there, it assesses the current state of operation of bridges on national highways, develops traffic organization plans, and makes plans for repairs when necessary to ensure safety.
Authorities hired divers to go to the bottom of the river to check and assess the erosion of the riverbed around the bridge piers, check the entire structure, the bottom of the pier foundation, and the connection of the piles to the bottom of the pier foundation of Ben Thuy 1 Bridge.
Initially, through visual inspection, the bridge piers and piers have not shown any major or unusual damage that could affect the bridge's load-bearing capacity. The bridge is still safe.
Currently, Ben Thuy 1 bridge is operated, managed and maintained by the Vinh city bypass BOT branch (belonging to Cienco 4 Group). Photo of the underside of Ben Thuy 1 bridge.
After surveying and measuring against the completion records, the bridge management units will propose a solution if the bridge is found to have structural damage to the pier, piles, pile connections or unusual erosion compared to the original condition.
In the coming time, Road Management Area II will continue to direct relevant units to inspect all bridges on the route in the area, to ensure safety during exploitation and operation.
