General rehearsal of the play "The Actress and Mr. Tam Nguyen"

On the evening of December 18, at the Provincial Cultural Center, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism held a general rehearsal of the new Cheo play "The Actress and Mr. Tam Nguyen" staged by the Provincial Cultural and Arts Center.

The play “The Actress and Mr. Tam Nguyen” was directed by People’s Artist Trinh Thuy Mui based on the literary script by Dr. Tran Dinh Ngon. The play tells about the days when Mr. Tam Nguyen Yen Do Nguyen Khuyen advised the mandarin to return to “the old Bui Garden” to live a peaceful life with the people. The characters in the play are people who made up the legend of Nguyen Khuyen such as mother Moc, Ms. Dao, actor Quy, the Kinh Luoc Su of Bac Ky, and Am Hien... once again portrayed by Dr. Tran Dinh Ngon with different personalities, but still highlighting the personality and talent of Mr. Tam Nguyen Yen Do.

With a heart of compassion for the people, deciding to retire and live in seclusion to be close to the people, but Mr. Tam Nguyen Yen Do still did not have a peaceful life, still saw the injustices of contemporary society every day, was helpless before the irony of the miserable life of the common people, before the corrupt habits of the lackeys and mandarins of the Nguyen Dynasty... The death of Ms. Dao was a tragedy of the poor people in the feudal colonial society. Mr. Tam Nguyen Yen Do, in that stormy life, still stood on the side of the people, protected and saved the spirits of the poor, helped them have faith to unite and fight against wrong and evil.

After nearly 2 months of preparation, the play was released and received positive reviews for its acting and staging despite many limitations in terms of funding, facilities, costumes, props, etc. Representatives of the Provincial Party Committee's Propaganda Department and the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism basically appreciated the efforts and dedication of the production team and noted some issues regarding stage art that needed to be appropriate to the setting of Mr. Tam Nguyen's village; whether or not the name of the work should be kept the same...

According to the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the play will be performed and released to the public in the near future, thereby helping artists to complete their works smoothly for national and regional Cheo theater competitions and festivals in 2024.
