Defendant Le Hong Son

In addition, Le Hong Son and Nguyen Thi Thanh Hang were determined to have given 2.65 million USD (equivalent to 61.6 billion VND) to Nguyen Anh Tuan (former Deputy Director of Hanoi City Police) so that Hang and Son would not be criminally prosecuted.

Notably, from March to July 2022, defendant Hoang Van Hung asked Hang "Are you determined to save Son?". After that, Hung instructed Hang and Son on how to make false statements to the investigation agency. Accordingly, Son only accompanied Hang to meet with officials from the Government Office . When Hang gave the bribe, Son saw the gift bag but did not know what was inside.

After being transferred to another position, Hung continued to intervene in "saving Son". However, despite paying a total bribe of 2.65 million USD (equivalent to 61.6 billion VND) to avoid criminal prosecution, Son was still arrested on December 8, 2022. In March 2023, it was Nguyen Thi Thanh Hang's turn to be prosecuted.

The investigation agency determined that Le Hong Son's actions constituted the crime of "Bribery" with the total bribe amount being over 100.2 billion VND, the highest in the "rescue flight" case. Nguyen Thi Thanh Hang's actions were determined to be an accomplice to Le Hong Son.
