- On the morning of May 8, in Hanoi, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Association of the Elderly (VEA) held a conference to summarize Project 1336/QD-TTg on "Replicating the model of Intergenerational Self-Help Clubs (CLBs) by 2025".
The conference was attended by leaders of central ministries and departments, representatives of international organizations and delegates of the Elderly Association of provinces and cities across the country.
Attending the conference at Lang Son bridge were representatives of the Provincial Elderly Association; leaders of the Department of Social Affairs and Department of Health.
According to the report of the Vietnam Association of the Elderly, by the end of December 2023, the whole country had established 6,000 new intergenerational self-help clubs with about 330,000 members, exceeding the assigned target (3,000 clubs, 150,000 members). Intergenerational self-help clubs have become a bright spot in caring for and promoting the role of the elderly, while promoting community cohesion. The activities of the clubs not only help the elderly improve their spiritual life, but also contribute positively to poverty reduction, new rural construction and civilized urban areas.
In Lang Son, as of December 2024, the whole province has established 46 Intergenerational Self-Help Clubs in 44 communes and towns of 11 districts and cities with 2,400 members participating. The highlight of the Club is that members support and help each other and people in many forms such as: taking care of and harvesting agricultural products for members who are sick or in trouble; mobilizing capital, supporting members in difficult circumstances, poor and near-poor households to borrow capital to develop production, up to now the total amount of capital mobilized is over 400 million VND and has supported 52 members.
At the conference, delegates focused on discussing and clarifying the advantages and difficulties in the implementation of the Project, sharing practical experiences and proposing solutions to improve the effectiveness of the activities of the Intergenerational Self-Help Clubs, specifically : Strengthening communication work; organizing training courses and skills development for association officials and the Club Management Board ; strengthening the mobilization of resources from domestic and foreign organizations and individuals to support the activities of the Club; building a plan to develop the Intergenerational Self-Help Club in conjunction with the local socio-economic development program, ensuring long-term sustainability and effectiveness.
During the program, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Elderly Association announced the Decision to award certificates of merit to 176 collectives and individuals with outstanding achievements in implementing the Project to replicate the model of intergenerational self-help clubs, of which Lang Son had 1 collective and 1 individual awarded.
