According to information from the White House, on January 20, after officially taking office, US President Donald Trump canceled the sanctions that the previous administration of Mr. Joe Biden imposed on Israeli settlers in the West Bank.

The White House said Mr. Trump had revoked Executive Order 14115 issued on February 1, 2024, which allows sanctions to be applied "to individuals who harm peace , security, and stability in the West Bank."
Mr. Trump's decision reversed a key policy of the previous administration of President Joe Biden, which aimed to impose sanctions on Israeli individuals and organizations settling in the West Bank, freezing their assets in the United States and prohibiting Americans from doing business with them.
As the world focuses on the conflict in Gaza, the increasing violence by Israeli settlers against Palestinians in the West Bank has raised concerns among some of Tel Aviv's Western allies.
The US sanctions on settlers come after the Biden administration repeatedly called on the Israeli government to take action to hold extremists accountable.
Washington said the actions had hampered hopes of a two-state solution between Israel and Palestine.
Since the 1967 Middle East war, Israel has controlled the West Bank, which Palestinians want as the center of an independent state. Tel Aviv has also built Jewish settlements there, despite international opposition.
The Israeli government, however, rejects the claims, citing historical and biblical links to the land.
President Donald Trump’s approach to settlements is arguably quite different. During his first term in 2019, Trump abandoned the long-standing US position that settlements were illegal, before Biden restored the policy.
