The Namibian President's office posted information on social media on February 4th stating that President Hage Geingob had passed away in a hospital at the age of 82, weeks after being diagnosed with cancer.

According to the source, Mr. Geingob passed away at the end of last month; however, the cause of death of the Namibian president was not specified. Previously, Mr. Geingob had stated that he would travel to the United States for treatment after being diagnosed with cancer during a routine health check.
In addition to his position as President of Namibia, Geingob also serves as the chairman of the ruling South West Africa People's Organization (SWAPO) party since being elected in November 2017.
According to the plan, Namibia will hold presidential and parliamentary elections in late 2024.
