Namibian President dies at age 82

Namibia's President's Office posted on social network X on February 4 that President Hage Geingob passed away in a hospital at the age of 82, a few weeks after he was diagnosed with cancer.

According to the source, Mr. Geingob passed away late last month, but the cause of his death was not specified. Previously, Mr. Geingob said he would go to the US for treatment after being diagnosed with cancer during a routine health check.

Along with being President of Namibia, Mr. Geingob has also served as Chairman of the ruling South West Africa People's Organization (SWAPO) party since being elected to the position in November 2017.

Namibia is scheduled to hold presidential and parliamentary elections by the end of 2024.
