(VTC News) – The Ukrainian leader said that Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump said that the US would support Kiev if he was re-elected in November.
“I received information directly from Donald Trump that he will stand with us, support Ukraine,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said. The Ukrainian leader added that the Republican candidate is “very interested” and wants to hear “directly” about the current situation on the front lines and the needs of Ukraine.
In an interview with Fox News, Volodymyr Zelensky said that he did not “know what will happen after the US presidential election and who will be president”, and that Kiev expected “an answer… from the United States” . The US position is especially important, as Washington has always been Kiev’s top supporter. In addition, President Volodymyr Zelensky described his conversation with Donald Trump on September 27 as “really productive” .

The former US president has said he could ask Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin to find a diplomatic solution “within 24 hours” of his re-election.
Earlier, in an interview with the New Yorker , the Ukrainian leader said he believed Donald Trump “doesn’t know how to stop a war, even if he thinks he does.” Asked by a Fox News host if he wanted to stick to his comments, Zelensky argued that no one outside Ukraine could truly understand what the country was going through.
“ We both want to see this end and see a fair deal come out,” Republican candidate Donald Trump stressed.
Earlier, Mr. Donald Trump criticized the President of Ukraine for not negotiating with Russia to end the conflict, saying that even the “ worst deal” would be better than the current situation. Meanwhile, the former US President said that his opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris, and President Joe Biden both do not know how to get the US out of the Ukraine conflict.
Russia has declared Ukraine’s neutrality one of the main goals of its military operation, stressing that any potential peace talks must take into account the “territorial realities” of Russian control over areas previously claimed by Ukraine.
