The results achieved in the first half of May 2023 brought the total import-export value of the whole country up to May 15 to 230.59 billion USD, down 15.4%, equivalent to a decrease of 42.1 billion USD in absolute terms compared to the same period in 2022.
Of which, the total import-export value of enterprises with foreign direct investment (FDI) reached 160.26 billion USD, down 15.1% (equivalent to a decrease of 28.5 billion USD). In the first period of May 2023, the trade balance of goods had a deficit of 988 million USD. From the beginning of the year to the end of May 15, the trade balance of goods had a surplus of 6.57 billion USD.
Regarding exports, the total value of Vietnam's export goods in the first period of May reached 11.45 billion USD, down 21.3% (equivalent to a decrease of 3.1 billion USD in absolute terms) compared to the second period of April 2023. Thus, by the end of May 15, the total export value of Vietnam reached 118.58 billion USD, down 12.8%, equivalent to a decrease of 17.47 billion USD compared to the same period in 2022.
Statistics from the General Department of Customs also show that the export value of goods of foreign direct investment (FDI) enterprises in the first period of May reached 8.09 billion USD, down 22.6%, equivalent to a decrease of 2.36 billion USD compared to the second period of April 2023. As of the end of May 15, the total export value of goods of this group of enterprises reached 87.17 billion USD, down 12.4%, equivalent to a decrease of 12.39 billion USD compared to the same period last year, accounting for 73.5% of the total export value of the whole country.
Regarding imports, the total value of Vietnam's imported goods in the first half of May reached 12.44 billion USD, an increase of 1.7% (equivalent to an increase of 212 million USD in absolute terms) compared to the results in the second half of April 2023. Thus, by the end of May 15, the total import value of the whole country reached 112.01 billion USD, a decrease of 18% (equivalent to a decrease of 24.63 billion USD) compared to the same period in 2022.
The import value of goods of FDI enterprises in this period reached 8.18 billion USD, an increase of 4% (equivalent to an increase of 317 million USD) compared to the second period of April 2023. As of the end of May 15, the total import value of this group of enterprises reached 73.09 billion USD, a decrease of 18.1% (equivalent to a decrease of 16.14 billion USD) compared to the same period in 2022, accounting for 65.3% of the total import value of the whole country.
