Ho Chi Minh City announces sample exam questions for grade 10 in 2026

The 10th grade entrance exam for the 2026-2027 school year is expected to take place in early June 2026 with 3 subjects: Math, Literature and Foreign Language (mainly English).

Specifically, Literature: The test is built according to the integrated orientation of assessing reading comprehension and writing skills, the content in the writing section is related to the text in the reading comprehension section.

The 3 subjects in the 10th grade entrance exam in Ho Chi Minh City include: Math, Literature and Foreign Language.

Mathematics: The test content is part of the 2018 general education program for secondary school mathematics, including the following knowledge streams: Geometry and measurement; numbers and algebra; Statistics and probability. The test content aims to assess mathematical abilities such as mathematical thinking and reasoning, mathematical problem solving, and mathematical modeling.

For English, the test is not only based on students' memorized knowledge of grammar and vocabulary; it also requires assessing their ability to understand and apply language knowledge in appropriate contexts, especially real-life situations.

Note that there are two new questions about writing appropriate phrases based on the information given. This question tests your ability to read dictionary notes to find linguistic information and apply knowledge.

Previously, on October 17, the Department announced that the three entrance exams for grade 10 in 2026 would remain unchanged from last year, including Math, Literature, and Foreign Language (mainly English).

According to the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, for many years, Ho Chi Minh City, Ba Ria - Vung Tau and Binh Duong (formerly) have all organized public 10th grade entrance exams with 3 compulsory subjects: Math, Literature and English. After the three localities merged, the unification of the exam format was implemented to facilitate students, parents and schools in the enrollment process.

According to the 10th grade admission regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training , localities can choose to conduct entrance exams, admission exams for 10th grade, or a combination. For entrance exams, the exam includes Math, Literature, and a third subject (or a combined exam).

This subject is selected by the Department from subjects assessed by scores, including: Foreign Language 1, Civic Education, Natural Sciences, History and Geography, Technology, and Information Technology.

However, provinces and cities are not allowed to choose a subject for more than three consecutive years, starting from 2025. The announcement time for the third exam subject is after the end of the first semester, no later than March 31 every year.

The 2026 10th grade entrance exam is the first exam in Ho Chi Minh City after the merger. It is expected that Ho Chi Minh City will combine both the admission and entrance exam methods.
