On July 28, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City announced information on additional enrollment for grade 10 for the 2025-2026 school year at public high schools that have not yet met their enrollment quotas in Region 1 (former Ho Chi Minh City).
The city has 37 schools that will organize additional enrollment for 2,340 10th grade students. Among them, some schools will recruit many additional enrollments such as Trung Lap High School with 262 enrollments, Phong Phu High School with 207 enrollments, Nguyen Van Tang High School with 181 enrollments, Ngo Gia Tu High School with 150 enrollments, An Nhon Tay High School with 100 enrollments...
Notably, Tran Dai Nghia Secondary and High School (the school with the highest admission score in the city) also recruited 68 additional students; Nguyen Thuong Hien High School (the 3rd highest admission score in the city) recruited 80 additional students.
According to regulations, the subjects participating in this additional recruitment round are students who have taken the entrance exam for grade 10 in the 2025-2026 school year in Region 1, Ho Chi Minh City but did not pass any of their wishes and must have a total entrance exam score of 3 subjects: Math, Literature, Foreign Language and priority and incentive points (if any) greater than or equal to the standard score of the first wish of the school they want to register for admission.
Each student can only register for additional admission to one school and cannot change schools once they have submitted their application.
Students wishing to enroll in additional courses must submit their applications directly to their high schools from July 30 to August 4. On August 8, schools will announce the list of additional successful candidates.
Previously, the 10th grade public entrance exam for the 2025-2026 school year in Ho Chi Minh City (old) had 76,400 students registered to take the exam, while the total target was 70,070 students (accounting for about 79% of 9th grade students, an increase from the previous year's rate of 65%; accounting for more than 90% of the number of candidates registered to take the exam).
Comparing the target and the number of candidates registering for the exam shows that the competitive pressure to enter public grade 10 in the city this year has somewhat decreased compared to previous years.
