On October 27th, in the waters southeast of Ho Chi Minh City, Ship 379 of Brigade 167, Region 2 of the Navy, commanded by Lieutenant Colonel Pham Van Phuong, Deputy Brigade Commander and Chief of Staff of Brigade 167, participated in joint training with the multi-purpose logistics ship HMNZS Aotearoa of the Royal New Zealand Navy, commanded by Lieutenant Commander Robert Welford, along with a crew of 109 sailors.
The two ships conducted joint training exercises involving formation maneuvering, performing maritime greetings, exchanging information, practicing international signaling, and implementing the Code of Conduct for Unplanned Encounters at Sea (CUES).
The activities were implemented in close coordination, synchronously, and according to plan.
Previously, from October 23-27, the HMNZS Aotearoa docked at Nha Rong Port for a courtesy visit to Ho Chi Minh City. During their time in the city, the ship's crew participated in various activities and exchanges with representatives of the Command of Naval Region 2.

Brigade 167 also sent a delegation to visit, exchange information, and agree on a plan and methods for joint training between the two sides, as well as to observe and exchange professional logistics activities on board the HMNZS Aotearoa.
Lieutenant Colonel Pham Van Phuong, Deputy Brigade Commander and Chief of Staff of the Brigade, said that joint training exercises at sea provide an opportunity for officers and soldiers of the Brigade to improve their foreign language skills, ship handling skills, collision avoidance, and the ability to handle unexpected situations at sea proficiently. They also learn about international maritime flags, hand signals, and maritime security and safety, and enhance their coordination and situational awareness at sea, contributing to strengthening the cooperative relationship, mutual understanding, and trust between the Vietnam People's Navy and the Royal New Zealand Navy.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Pham Van Phuong, at the end of the training, the forces successfully completed all the content and plans, achieving the set objectives and requirements, ensuring absolute safety of personnel, vehicles and technical equipment, affirming the competence, professional demeanor and positive international cooperation spirit of the officers and soldiers of Brigade 167, contributing to consolidating and strengthening friendly relations, cooperation, development, for peace , stability, security and safety at sea.
