The People's Committee of Ca Mau province has just approved the investment plan for the restoration and upgrading of the Temple of the 10 Heroic Martyrs of the Hon Khoai Uprising. The temple is located in An Xuyen ward (Ca Mau province).
The province will restore and upgrade the existing temple facilities, including the 627m2 temple, the management and administration building, the water reservoir and model of Hon Khoai Island, the reliefs, the electrical system, and the greenery…
The total investment for the project is over 6.1 billion VND from the budget or other legal sources, with an implementation period from 2025-2027.
The People's Committee of Ca Mau province has instructed relevant departments and agencies to prepare dossiers and procedures for submission to competent authorities for investment decisions on the project in accordance with the Law on Public Investment and related laws; focusing on implementing and completing the project on schedule, ensuring quality, and preventing loss or waste of state budget funds.
According to the People's Committee of Ca Mau province, the restoration and upgrading of the Temple of the 10 Heroic Martyrs of the Hon Khoai Uprising aims to express the profound gratitude of the people to the heroic martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland. Through the restoration of the temple and the creation of a solemn and dignified memorial space, the aim is to educate present and future generations about the patriotic tradition, courage, and heroic sacrifices of our ancestors.
The temple dedicated to the 10 heroic martyrs of the Hon Khoai Uprising was started in 2017 and inaugurated in 2018, on the occasion of the 78th anniversary of the Hon Khoai Uprising and the Revolutionary Tradition Day of the Party Committee, army and people of Ca Mau province (December 13, 1940 - December 13, 2018).
Eighty-five years ago, under the guiding light of the Communist Party of Vietnam , Party organizations and revolutionary mass movements in Ca Mau were formed and developed strongly, opening a new chapter in the province's revolutionary history. In particular, the Hon Khoai uprising of 1940 – part of the Southern Uprising – will forever remain a shining symbol of courage, patriotism, and the aspiration for national independence.
The uprising, led by Comrade Phan Ngoc Hien, took place on the night of December 13, 1940, and held profound significance, marking a remarkable leap forward in the political, ideological, and organizational maturity of the Bac Lieu (now Ca Mau) Provincial Party Committee. The resounding victory of the uprising was due to meticulous preparation, along with the proactive, flexible spirit and courage of the revolutionary fighters.
Although the Hon Khoai Uprising was brutally suppressed by the enemy, and Comrade Phan Ngoc Hien and nine other comrades who participated in the uprising bravely sacrificed their lives, the Hon Khoai Uprising and the name of the heroic martyr Phan Ngoc Hien and his fellow fighters have gone down in history, becoming a source of pride for the people, an epic of indomitable will, and a resounding declaration of "We would rather sacrifice ourselves than be enslaved" of our nation.
December 13th has become the traditional revolutionary day of the heroic Party Committee, army, and people of Ca Mau.
Secretary of the Ca Mau Provincial Party Committee Nguyen Ho Hai emphasized that 85 years ago, Hon Khoai and 10 martyrs of the uprising ignited a flame, becoming a torch illuminating the path for the revolutionary struggle. Today, Hon Khoai is once again called by the name of the Fatherland, receiving a new mission to build "the nation's standing on the vast sea," "opening the way for Vietnam's future," as General Secretary To Lam stated.
Today's Ca Mau and Ca Mau of 85 years ago share many similarities in administrative boundaries and area, but Ca Mau's position is now different from the past. It is no longer a remote, impoverished, and backward region. Today's Ca Mau has a vast open space, many outstanding potentials, distinct advantages, and a particularly important position as a new growth pole and a gateway to the open sea at the southernmost tip of the country.
The province's socio-economic development has progressed quite rapidly; the material and spiritual lives of the people have improved significantly; the appearance of urban and rural areas has undergone many changes, and socio-economic infrastructure has been increasingly invested in and improved in a comprehensive manner.
In particular, the province is receiving attention from the central government for investment in key projects such as: the Can Tho-Ca Mau expressway, the Ca Mau-Dat Mui expressway, the road from the mainland to Hon Khoai island, the Hon Khoai dual-use multi-purpose seaport, and the upgrading of Ca Mau Airport…/.
