Ho Chi Minh City: The dream of studying in a public school of 3 children in a charity class comes true

3 students from a charity class in Thu Duc City are eligible to transfer to public schools thanks to the support of the Thu Duc City Social Security Center and a project to support children in special circumstances.

On the afternoon of June 12, Thu Duc City Social Security Center held a conference to summarize the project "Increasing opportunities to receive and ensure social security for children in special circumstances studying in charity classes in Thu Duc City".

The project, funded by Save the Children International (UK), was approved by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee under Decision No. 3206/QD-UBND dated August 14, 2024 and Decision No. 448/QD-UBND dated February 6, 2025. The project is implemented in charity classes in Tan Phu Ward, Binh Trung Dong Ward, Hiep Binh Phuoc Ward, Linh Trung Ward, Long Binh Ward, Thu Duc City.

Ms. Ho Thi Thuan, Head of Social Security Administration - Training and Community Connection, said that in 2024, the project donated 376 backpacks and 185 sets of textbooks to 376 students. At the same time, the project organized training and communication classes with a total budget of more than 396 million VND.

In 2025, the project equipped 5 charity classrooms with learning equipment, including 7 televisions and stands, 7 desktop computers, 5 portable speakers, 11 teaching aids, 26 desks and chairs, 8 bookshelves, and 10 mobile boards. In addition, the project also supported learning tools, uniforms, and gym clothes for nearly 355 students. The total cost of implementation was nearly 600 million VND.

To date, the project has supported 400 children in special circumstances with full school supplies and knowledge and skills on child protection. In parallel, 60 social workers, teachers and volunteers have also been trained in professional knowledge on child protection.

During the implementation process, 185 students were transferred to the general school system. In particular, 3 students with good academic performance were eligible to transfer to public schools, including 1 7th grader and 2 6th graders studying at Hung Binh Secondary School (Thu Duc City).

Nguyen Van Bao Anh (12 years old), studying at a charity class in Long Binh Ward, emotionally shared his joy when he was able to enter grade 6 at a public school: "I am very happy to be able to go to class with my friends, to study and play. I promise to be a good student and study well so as not to disappoint the teachers who love us."

Reporting at the conference, Ms. Tran Thi Thanh Thuy (70 years old), representative of the charity class in Binh Trung Dong Ward, said that the project is an important and breakthrough step in building a fair society where all children have the opportunity to develop their full potential.

From September 2024 to June 2025, the Binh Trung Dong Ward charity class received 65 student backpacks, 57 sets of textbooks, 285 pens, 65 sets of uniform shirts, and 65 sets of gym uniforms. The project also supported the classroom with 1 TV, 1 desktop computer, 4 mobile boards, 15 sets of tables and chairs, and 2 mobile speakers to support teaching. In addition, the project gave 65 gifts including school supplies, cakes, and milk to the children on the occasion of Tet.

In addition, Ms. Thuy expressed her hope that leaders at all levels will continue to pay attention and create conditions for many children in charity classes who do not have the conditions to study at public schools to have the opportunity to go to school.
